Finally...
I thought as I stepped out from behind the trees. With one paw in front of the other I slowly approached my mate. His head rose high as he watched me approach, his ears pointed to the sky, his eyes locking on me instantly.
Suddenly his head titled back and he howled into the night. Then, just as suddenly, he closed the gap between us. The fur of his face rubbed against my muzzle and a frantic set of yelps left my throat, begging for him to play with me. His muzzle rubbed roughly into my neck and he growled playfully as he nudged me.
'I love you Coralie...'
I heard this in my mind and he thought it again and again.
'Chase me Daniel...'
I replied as I sprinted away from him quickly.
He howled louder than before, a midnight howl into the sky. And then he was nipping at my heals as I finally soared over the forest floor: for the first time in six years I felt completely free.

We had run through the night like ghost with wings. Playing and fighting whenever we'd catch each other. We were matched in speed, I had always been fast, but he overpowered me more than not. Like eagles we soared through the trees and over rivers. Past the mountains, to the east, the south, and then back to our forest. We rolled down hills as we bit at each other's necks. We leapt into the air after each other, weaved through trees like the wind. We ran like the flames of a forest fire over miles and miles of land, until we couldn't fight the morning any longer.
I stumbled into the clearing, having just slipped my dress back on after returning to my human form, and I slumped to the ground.
Just as I looked up for him Danny emerged from the forest, his head back as he panted, having only slipped his shorts back on. He stumbled too as he walked towards me, exhausted as I was and covered in a sheen of sweat, he fell beside me on the grass.
Instantly he pulled me into his warm embrace as I crawled towards him.
He sighed contently and kissed my forehead, his breath still leaving in pants, his heart beating so quickly and strongly I could feel it pound against my face as I curled up to his chest. He laid back, one arm outstretched beside him, and the other rubbing my arm as he tightened his grip on me. He chuckled airily as he kissed my forehead again.
"Danny! Your teeth!" I gasped. His sharpened wolf canines never retracted back. It only happens when you run with your mate for the first time, and only to males. Their canines remain sharp so they can claim their mate. And from then on they never go back to human teeth again. It's not an extremely noticeable thing, like vampires in movies, but having stared longingly at him many times I spotted them right away. He ran his tongue over his canines and then chuckled.
"Well they'll come in handy some day..." He teased, pecked my forehead, and sighed.
He stared up at the last of the twinkling stars as they fought the sunrise. We had stayed out way longer than we normally would have, until our wolves begged to sleep, until even my usually nagging wolf refused another step. My eyes fluttered closed.
"Why did I ever refuse this?" I chuckled darkly. "I was such a fool..." I shook my head.
"Yes, you were... Never do that to me again Coralie..." He said, but he chuckled airily in return. "I'll drag you kicking and screaming if I have to..."
"I won't ever refuse you again Danny." I shook my head, leaned up with some of the last strength I had, and kissed his lips as he looked down at me.
