Edd's POV

I wake up to a beeping sound. Sitting up I hit my alarm and pull on my hat. First day of Senior year here I come.

I get up and walk to my closet. To my dismay all of my nice shirts were in the wash pile.

I guess a plain orange shirt it is. To top it all off my pants had gotten ripped and I hadn't gotten a chance to fix them yet. "What am I going to do?!" I talk to myself panicked.

Hmm.. I could wear a box over my undergarments.
No, I wouldn't be able to go in public if I did that.

I could wear my pj pants.
No, I can't do that I would look like more of a slob. Perhaps my father has something I could throw on.

Once I was standing in my parent's closet I couldn't find anything that was my size by a lot.

When I was still looking for something to wear, even though at least ten minutes had past, I heard a low rumble of a bus. I just grabbed a pair of my Father's pants and put them on while I ran out of their room.

-time skip-

"Hey sockhead!" Eddy yells when I walk into the lunchroom, pulling up the oversized purple pants I had grabbed. I nod at the two familiar faces, "Greetings Eddy. Ed. May I si-," before I could finish asking to have a seat Eddy interrupted me.
"Over the summer Ed and I have devised the perfect scam!"

For the sake of keeping a conversation I asked what he was thinking. I honestly had never got why we did the scams Eddy would come up with other than to entertain us as children. As we got older it felt more of something we should have left behind but didn't.

"Do you know who the most popular guys at school with the ladies are? Athletes. Our problem for not getting the ladies is we aren't athletes, but that is going to change. We are all joining in on sports this year," Eddy says matter of factly.

Ed laughs, "sports."

My eyes widen while I listened to Eddy's newest plan. Not only are sports unsafe, none of us had ever been on a sports team. We aren't the sport type of guys, especially me! I stick to books for a reason, but of course I couldn't say any of this to Eddy, he and Ed were my only friends. I can't chance loosing them.

"A-alright," I say quietly nodding slightly. "I will do it."

-time skip-

Pulling my key out of the door I walk inside my quiet house. I hang my school bag up in the closet by the door and walk to the kitchen to see if my parents had left any messages, because I hadn't checked this morning for any.
Sure enough when I walked into the kitchen there was a sticky note.

Eddward,
I'm sorry we could see you off to school today.
Have a great first day of school!
-Mom and Dad

When I finish reading it I put the sticky note into the recycle bin and get a glass of water.

If you are wondering why in this day in time my parents don't just text me, here is why they don't.

-flashback to only a year ago-

"Eddward, your Mother and I would like to talk to you!" My dad shouted up the stairs. I get up from reading on my bed and go downstairs to see both my parents sitting on the sofa.

"Yes, Sir?"

"Come sit, Eddward," my Dad said gesturing to the opposite couch.

I do as I was told and sit.
"What did you want to talk about?" I asked.

My Mom takes a breath in slowly and let's it out, "We have tried for years to make sure we had all the things you need to have a comfortable life but-"

At this time when I heard the magical words "but" my heart automatically started pounding in my chest, what felt like a hundred hands punching my chest a minute.

"-But we have hit a bump in the road," my Father finishes for my Mom.

"What type of 'bump in the road'?" Was all I could manage to get out.

"Your Father was let go of his job and since we have all those hospital
Bills-" my Mother starts to cry.

I know what she is going to say next, I didn't have that small amount of college savings anymore, so I nod and go over to her and hug both my parents, "We will get through it together."

Within the months after things financially where still really tight and I didn't get any money to spend on myself, but I didn't need it, and my Father was able to get a new job.

The problem with his job was he had to be out of state.
When my parents told me we could restart in another state, I refused.

I had only one more year to go (this year) and I could get a scholarship in that time to a college and they wouldn't have to stress things out.

So meeting half way, my parents had me spend my summer over there, but are letting me stay to finish the year here with my Mom taking a day or two each month to come down and check up on me.
