"Okay, no one panic, we're fine."

"Fine? Fine?! We are stuck in an elevator! What is it with elevators and practically being the death of me?" That was a pour choice of words on my part, but they're the ones that came to me.

"Kris, we're going to be fine. I can't guarantee you'll even be able to step foot in an elevator again, but we'll be fine." I don't know if Castle was joking or not. Ugh. Then, something happened that made me glad I was stuck in this metal falling death trap.

Outside the door, I heard a deep voice call out. "Where is she?! Where is that bitch?! Where is Kristina Haines?" Everyone sported the same looks but the doctor, whose face also reflected confusion.

"We can't stay here." I said.

"Where do you suggest we go? We're stuck in an elevator." Castle doubted me.

"Define stuck. What floor are we on?"

"First floor, the ER and ICU."

"And you were transferring me to..."

"Fifth floor."

"Okay, so they wouldn't be looking for us on second floor. We just have to be sure they're past third before we go up there. What is second floor?"

"The maternity ward." Super. We won't stick out at all. Sarcasm is a great thing, don't you think?"

"It's ironic that the same thing Gates made me do that almost killed me also made me realize I know how to get us out of here and save our lives."

"Nice use of irony." Castle encouraged.

"Thanks. Now, Rick, give me a boost."

"Umm... I'm no expert on this kind of medicine, but should you be doing the with your- in your condition?" Laynie interrupted.

"Well someone does. And I'm going to have to go up eventually."

"No, she's right, someone else should go up first," the doc insisted.

"Who?" None of these people could do this, they didn't know how.

"Me." Kate stood in front and looked at Rick.

"Let's make this a Bigfoot lift, not a ghostly mansion lift, okay? There are people in the room."

"Alright, but that was the best lift you ever felt." Castle seemed to be teasing Kate, but she didn't seemed as amused as he was.

"Rick, we weren't even dating."

"You still loved it." Kate just rolled her eyes and then got ready to "reach for the stars" and push out the elevator's top tile. When Castle got in a squat, his hands cupped together as a holding surface and the cheerleader move began. She put her foot in his hand and her hands on his shoulders. We all took steps away from them, but from what I could figure, they'd done this before. He boosted her up slightly as she pushed out the ceiling, and they came back down. This time, her hands reached up, and his lift was much higher. Once she got a hold on the ceiling, she brought her feet to stand on his shoulders and she was on her own from here. The two counted to three and she lifted her body as he pushed her feet through. She came all the way up and sat on the edge before she stood.

"Now what?" Kate asked.

"Now we're going to wait a minute to be sure they've passed us." I said. We waited about three minutes before Kate spoke. "Now what?"

"Can you reach the door above you?"

"Yeah. Barely, but enough to reach them."

"Alright, well, anyone got anything we could use as a crow bar?" They all kind of looked at me. "I'm kidding. Up on top of the elevator, there should be a piece of metal towards the way left."
