"Okay, I'm gonna need that podium moved out of that area. The band and DJ are setting up there, we can't have a podium in the way." I said talking to one of the staff members that was hired to set up for the banquet tonight. The red carpet and cocktail hour started at 730 and it was currently 230 in the afternoon. I had been running around like a chicken with my head cut off, on barely 2 hours of sleep, trying to put the final touches on everything for this party. I was now at the venue making sure everything was set up correctly, and it was a good thing I came because things weren't moving according to plan at all. Until I showed up, it seemed as though everyone was lounging around, and I didn't have time for that. After checking on things in the main hall, I made my way outside to check on the set up of the red carpet, and much to my satisfaction almost everything was perfect out there. As I walked around the venue giving minor orders, I heard my phone going off in my back pocket. I fetched it to see Elliot calling me. A small smile formed on my face as I placed the phone to my ear. He had been acting a little wierd lately, but it was still good to hear his voice now and then.
"Hey" I said
"How's my girl?"
"She's good. A little stressed, but I'll be okay." I sighed as I took a seat at one of the tables. I had been looking forward to this day since I took the job, but now, I just couldn't wait until it was over so I could breathe. I already knew I wasn't getting a break though, especially with the amount of jobs I'd taken on after this one was done.
"That party wearing you out?"
"Yea, but it's nothing I'm not used to." I shrugged as if he could see me.
"I'm sure it's not. It sounds pretty busy back there."
"Yeah everybody's in here trying to set up, but it's getting done."
"That's good." He said before we fell into an awkward silence. I don't know what's been going on with him, but it's been like this for the past few days. He's been acting pretty funny but he wouldn't tell me why. He called me the other night and left a message saying he had something important to talk to me about, but he hasn't said anything to me yet.
"Babe, what did you need to talk to me about?" I asked
"Oh umm, it was nothing" he said and I knew he was lying
"Elliot, tell me" I said but he refused
"Babe, I'm telling you it's nothing. Don't worry about it, it's not important right now." He lied.
"Okay" I sighed, not about to press him anymore about the issue. I figured he would tell me when he was ready so I left it alone. "Look babe, I gotta finish up around here. Let me know when you'll be free tonight and I'll call you later."
"Alright. Bye." He said abruptly hanging up the phone and I furrowed my eyebrows. "Ms. Montgomery, is this the final list of press that will be coming tonight?" An intern that I hired came and asked. I took the list from him and gave it a once over, before nodding and handing it back to him.
"They should start arriving around 615" I said and he nodded
"Okay, no problem." He responded before walking away. I got up and made a final round of the banquet hall before making my way out. It was now 515 and I desperately wanted to take a nap before this party started but seeing as how I needed to be ready by 6, I clearly didn't have time. Since we booked the party at a hotel, I decided to book a suite for the day so that I would have somewhere to get ready. After making sure everyone would be alright without me for 45 minutes, I made my way up to my room and began to get ready.
