[UNEDITED]

Eva Montaigne
***************

I stare at Jackson, it was like my world just stopped and everything around me froze.

I've been dancing with my fiancé!

I felt nauseous, my head was spinning and I didn't know what to do, Jackson was still by my side. We remained silent, all the fun and laughter we had a while ago faded. My grandfather appeared beside Vaughn, he looked at me for a second.

"Good evening, Vaughn. Good evening, Jackson." He greeted the two men.

Jackson only nodded at him in greeting. He didn't speak, but he appeared calm and collected.

"So I see you've already met each other." My grandfather said. He looked at Vaughn who wore a smirk on his face. He must have seen us dance a while ago. "Come, let's go to our table to get settled."

We sat at a large round table which was covered in a beige cloth, it had a center piece of white flowers. I sat beside my grandfather and Jackson sat beside his.

He three of them chatted about business and I tuned them out. I didn't seem to care about anything right now, everything seemed pointless and fake now.

"Eva?" I snapped out of my trance and saw three pairs of eyes looking at me.

"Yes?" I said. Great I wasn't listening at all.

"So what do you think about being Jackson's secretary for the time being?" Vaughn asked me. "It would be good for you. You'd be able to help out and stay by Jackson's side, and you'd be able to get to know each other."

I looked at my grandfather, he simply nodded at me. "Well I'd love to help, I don't see anything wrong with that."

"Jackson, is that alright with you?" Vaughn asked him. I could see Jackson's jaw tighten at the question. Why was he like this?

"Yes, it would be alright." He answered looking directly at his grandfather. "It would be great to get to know my fiancé."

It was clear that he didn't like me at all but what did I do to him? We're both victims here, we didn't want to get married to each other.

"Excellent," Vaughn said beaming. "Now, let's enjoy the party,"

Vaughn got up first and vanished into the crowd. My grandfather was next, leaving Jackson and I alone. I didn't want to talk and my position right now felt uncomfortable.

I got up from my seat but a strong grip prevented me from continuing to leave. I turned and my eyes met Jackson's.

"Where are you going?"

Jackson Rutherford
*******************

"Why would you want to know?" She asked, her eyes were wide. She looked frightened at me, like I was some beast.

"Because you're my fiancé," She gave me a look after I said that. "Okay, because I just want to know where you're going."

"I'll just go out to the balcony for some fresh air,"

Before I could answer back she scurried away. I stood and tried to follow her. I might just know her name but I want to know her better, and I'm not planning to be difficult toward her. I'm willing to be friends with her but I can't promise to love her like a husband.

I shake my head. Where the hell did those thoughts come from?

I see her outline, I'm going to be honest, she looked beautiful under the moonlight. Just... wow. I went to her side but she didn't notice me. It was a weird feeling because most women usually notice my presence instantly.

"Eva." I said. She turned around and I came to her.

"Yes?" She asked.

"Well the party's getting boring," I said nonchalantly. "I was planning to leave, would you like to join me?"

I knew that my grandfather was going to announce our engagement tonight but to hell with it, I don't care at all and I'm tired of obeying him.

She looked hesitant. "Where are you planning to go?"

"I honestly don't know," I replied. "I'm planning as I'm going."

She smiled at me. "Hey, I thought you didn't do that kind of thing Mr. Rutherford."

"Where'd you get that idea Ms. Montaigne?" I chuckle.

"From some articles I've read online."

"So you've been stalking me," I smirk moving closer. "Well, I'm used to it so don't worry. I won't judge." I wink.

"Arrogant jerk," she laughed, but I saw her blush. "And for your information I wasn't stalking you, I have better thing to do than to look at your profile. I was simply gathering information."

"Call it what ever you want Ms. Montaigne," I said. "But in my book that's still considered stalking."

"So, would you like to come with me?" I ask.

"Hmmm...," She hummed teasing me. "Okay I'll come with you, but promise me that where you're taking me has food cause I'm starving right now."

"It's a deal," I chuckle.

We sneak past our grandfathers and head towards the elevator. Once we get to my car I start the engine. I know the perfect place to take her.
