Chapter 4

"The look."

"The what?"

"The look, it's what brothers do when one of us fancies a girl. We give them the look to back off."

The heat slowly tanning my fare skin started to get remarkably uncomfortable. I made the decision to greet the salty ocean water where all the boys are, with the exception of Liam and Zayn. I take off my light jean shorts and dark sunglasses as I stroll down to the edge of the water, not wanting to get wet, more of to cool down from the devil that we commonly call the sun.

Looking around the empty beach I watch two grey and white seagulls fight with each other for the simple half of a piece of white bread. Their beaks bout and duel for the piece until a larger, darker seagull sweeps under them to take their prize possession. The dark seagull was incredibly silent that the two light seagulls continued their revelry while the dark one sat alone on a pile of sharp rocks pecking at the bread. Afterwards, the gull searches for a new piece. That seagull is like me. I thought. I take what others want selfishly while they turn their backs. I am silent and unknown to them. They can't see me coming, ready to commit a crime. Then, once I am satisfied with the little I got, I begin to explore more areas of the world for something more. For more temporary enjoyment. I shook my head. No, I don't do that. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't find a way to justify my previous and future actions.

"Hey darling!" Louis says with a goofy accent out of nowhere. I smile and look back at the ground where the water slowly glazed the sand kissing it softy and then pulling away just to come back ready for more.

I focused on trying to avoid direct eye contact, much less any contact, with all of One Direction. If I accomplish this small task then I wouldn't feel as guilty for playing with Zayn's heart.

I focus on my naked toes playing in the sand. I wiggle each toe deeper with satisfaction. I feel the grit of the sand rub in between my toes and cover my heals of my feet. Now I focus on smell. I smelt the unforgettable smell of the salty sea. I had grown used to the smell, even though I had disliked it for several years when I was younger. Next, I focus on hearing my surroundings. Seagulls gawking at anything that looked like food and dove to fetch it. The waves crashed against the rocky area on the far right side of me. From the feeling and the smell of the beach, I felt as if I could taste it. As if I was a part of the long beach.

"Something wrong?" I look up at the boy shaking my head 'no' when I feel a strong body pick me up over the muscled back. While screaming I see Louis hysterically laughing, I quickly remembered my earlier suspicion of why Harry wasn't in the water as I talked with Louis.

"Harry!" I groan, stretching out each syllable of the common name. It seemed as if we were long old friends. Harry made the decision to bring me into the water and walk aimlessly around.

We go deeper into the dark water. With each long stride of a step I feel Harry's large feet sink into the sandy mud, occasionally cursing about constant sharp edged shells that he steps on. "We are going pretty far," I say after we both stopped laughing and the waves crashing and the seagulls hovering above were the only sounds I could recognize.

"We-" before Harry could finish, the next step into the mud was an abrubt undersea cliff. Harry slips with me on his bare back, now his pillow, first to land with him on top. I yell a last high pitched scream before we both break the surface into the now deadly water. But instead of falling on the mud, I continued to fall.

We fell off the cliff.
