Chapter 1: The Darkness Has No Name.
A certain darkness began to swallow up the sky as I slowly paced under it. The forest had become quiet and peaceful, The wind calmly drifting in and out of the many trees that made up the serene forest. The river still gracefully followed it's course, But it no longer raced the fish to the edge of the city. My close friend and partner; Mia, The grey and ever-fluffy Exceed lay sleeping on my right shoulder, Her tail gently wrapped under my arm. She always seemed to sleep with her right canine tooth over-hanging her bottom jaw; as, For some strange reason, it was noticably longer than her left canine.. Which I always thought was extremely cute, even though most people just thought it was plain weird or creepy. "She's my partner," I thought. And I'll always have her back and be there for her, And I know she feels the same about me. That's all that matters. So we can throw everyone else's opinions out of the window. Unless of course they think that were awesome. Then they're right.
But people have never really cared about us anyway, So if someone did, It'd be a little strange to say the least. Especially from our not-so-very heartwarming experiences in the past, Friends were few and far between. I had a couple, But they were hadly friends. They all played me eventually, used me like some sort of card. Probably the Joker; The card that no-one ever wanted to end up with. Story of my life there. Saw me as a joke; Must have been one too, to have even trusted them in the first place. That's why I hardly trust anyone nowadays. I try to be kind, Try to put aside differences; Mainly mine, Yet I just end up getting stabbed in the back. The only friend I have is Mia, And I wouldn't trade her for anyting. Family isn't much either. In fact; I'd say that it was probably worse. There's me, my mum, And... My selfish, idiotic, deceitful bastard of a so called father. He was just so... Just thinking of him drives me mental. Words don't even begin to describe. The guy just up and left when I was eight years old. But before that, He was a complete jerk to us; Especially my mum; Jacqui. He was always shouting abuse at her, And once I can remember, when she used her Fullbody Take-Over magic and transformed into her Wolf Soul; He tried to run her over at ridiculous speed in one of those Magic powered vehicles.
In fact, Speaking of Magic, I don't even know what type of Mage he is.. Not that I give a damn. But it didn't even stop when he left. He kept sending me and my mum horrible letters telling us what and how he was going to do to us. One of them told us of how he was going to destroy the house and lock us in eternal darkness until death. A little while after that, It stopped, And I haven't seen or heard of him since. And I'm sixteen now. I found Mia's huge egg when I was nine years old. It had silver almost feather-like patterns on it and was nearly my size, maybe bigger. I've always been smaller than quite a few people and it tends to get on my nerves. A lot. The after months of running around and copying my mum, trying to do my best to be a mother to the egg, it finallly hatched. And out popped the cutest ball of fur I'd ever seen. With her cute little white wings and her really small ears and fluffy tail... We've been as close as friends could get ever since. She was still fast asleep on my shoulder, purring lightly, with her fang sticking out. That's also where she aqquired her nick-name " The Furry Vampire ". My mum gave it to her, As well as her collar and bell she happily wears around her neck. Mum gave her that nick-name a year and a half ago, right before we left... Mum was so kind, So heart-warming... Just a complete gem to be around. She'd always look out for me and Mia, She'd always put us first, No matter what. Even before her back treatments. Her neck treatments. She'd always had major problems with her back, But they had only began to sink their teeth into her after her mid fourties. She'd often be in pain, yell, scream out, or even just break down into tears because of the sheer agony of the whole thing. It worried me so much and all of the time- Scared me even; Because I knew there was nothing I could do about it.
I remember those days I just sat on the doorstep and cried my eyes out, me and Mia holding each other tight for comfort. I couldn't even heal her with Magic- Or attempt to; Because at the time, I wasn't a Mage, I didn't know any Magic. Just another of the many promises my 'Father' failed to keep. She was a member of the Crystal River Guild, and she payed the bills by taking job requests from their quest board. She always used to tell us stories about famous Guilds and their members. On ethat popped up regularly was Fairy Tail. She told us about the Guildmaster; Makarov Dreyar, and his mind blowing Magic. But what always had me in awe and to this day still does, Was how he always referred to the Guild Members as his children. I wasn't quite sure where from, But from that day on, I decided that when I grew up, I'd join Fairy Tail, And do my best to be one of their top Mages. Not for me, But for my mum. Although, There was one Mage in particular that I really wanted to meet; Natsu Dragneel. He was a Fire Dragonslayer, And had a tendancy to destroy things. Like the Guild Hall. And a small town. But he always looked out for his friends and would never even dream of leaving them behind. And he was one of the strongest Mages in Fairy Tail along with 'Titania' Erza Scarlett and others. I kept on walking casually under the trees, The light by now had fully disappeared from the sky. By now we were nearing the peaceful town of Magnolia, Where the Fairy Tail Guild resides. It was getting late, And I was struggling to keep my tired eyes open for a few more minutes. Mia started to ruffle her soft fur with her nose, and stretched herself into one of her famous awkward positions.
With effort, she slightly lifted one eyelid open. "Nat.. Are we almost there...?" Her gentle voice spoke sleepily. I moved my gaze forward and nodded. I could see the River's faint end in the distance, and the beginning of a stone path leading into the outskirts of the town, However we did still have about an hour or so left to walk and I was starting to lose all strength in my legs and my eyelids were about to go on strike. "Mhm hmm, Nearly there." I whispered back as she lowered her ears and placed her head back onto my shoulder. "Aren't you going to sleep Nat? You'll need it, We have a big day tomorrow after all.." She spoke, glancing at me with deep yellow eyes. Like always, She was right. I scanned the area to find a good place to bunk down and rest, But my legs picked before I had a chance. I landed myself on a fresh patch of grass underneatha Cherry tree and got myself comfortable. As did Mia as she got up and spun herself around to lie by my side. It wasn't the warmest of places, But It'd have to do. "I'll get some sleep now then I think...." I yawned before slowly placing my head on a soft mossy rock. She purred with happiness as her face and mine lit up with excitement. "Were going to have a great day tomorrow, Don't you think?" Her face shone with delight at the thought. "Hell yeah.." I smiled back. It's going to be amazing. Moments after that, We both lost consiousness to the night.
