---Chapter 11---

April 3rd:

I sat at my desk and scribbled away in my exercise book, writing down all of the notes the teacher was writing on the chalkboard. The chalk screeched as it was forced down onto the slate. We all sat in silence as we wrote, too busy concentrating on the work to talk to anybody. Not that I talked to anyone anyway; Hang out with the kid who's the son of the vicar, yet doesn't even believe in God? No thank you.

Suddenly the classroom door opened and our headmistress came in, a girl with flaming red hair standing next to her. Everyone stops what they're doing and stares at the new girl. Her lips were in a thin straight light, however when she saw me she gave me a small smile. I blink and gave her a discreet wave; she waves back.

"Students. This is Ai. She just moved here so I want you to make her feel welcome. Understood?" Our headmistress says and everyone nods. With that she leaves the classroom and Ai just stands at the front, glancing at me from time to time. Our teacher sits her at the front of the classroom and she continues to write stuff on the board. We do this for a while before she reads to us a passage from the bible. Then the bell chimes and signifies that it's lunchtime.

I stay at my desk and nibble at my food, sitting all by myself. Everyone else sat with their friends but since I didn't have any I was by myself. Not that I really minded. I bit into my cheese sandwich, tying to block out the other students laughter. All their interests were on Ai, I felt sorry for her. I bet all the attention was probably suffocating.

"Hi." An unfamiliar voice spoke. I raise my head and see Ai staring at me with a friendly smile upon her face. All the other students are watching us, whispering and glaring at me. She pulled out the empty chair next to me and sat down, placing her own lunch on the table. "I'm Ai. What's your name?" I blink a couple of times, swallowing my food before answering.

"I-I'm Villa." I mumble in slight confusion as she was the first to ever intentionally try to make friends with me. She grins at me.

"Nice to meet you. Do you mind if I sit with you?" I couldn't exactly say no, since she had already sat down, so I agreed and we both spent lunch time sitting together. She told me about her old town and that she loved video games among other various activities. I also found out that she was an atheist too! I was relieved I wasn't alone anymore.

Even after the school day ended we walked home together. It turned out her house was only across the bridge from my house. I waved goodbye to her and ran home as fast as I could. The moment I entered the door I saw my mom and dad sitting at the kitchen table, chatting with each other and sipping some tea.

"Hello sweetie," My mother opened her arms out to me and I leaped into her arms, embracing her. "How was school?"

"It was great! A new girl joined and she was really nice! We've become friends now."

"That wonderful." She ruffles my hair and kisses my forehead. When I break away from my mom I turn to face dad who just smiles blankly at me. He pats his lap to indicate he wants me to sit ; I comply.

"Now son, this girl, what's your first thoughts on her?"

"She's friendly and smart-"

"Right, but what about her looks?" Oh my god...

"Um...she's pretty, I guess." I see a grin on his face appear and I have to hold back a roll of my eyes.
