KC, those two letters are stuck in my head and I can't figure out what they stand for. As I walk home with Jimmy and Kate, I'm dead silent while they have a conversation about how Jimmy got the exact same mark as Kate on the math test we had last week.
"I swear you cheated, no way you can go from getting C's and D's to getting a B+."
"I guess I'm just as smart as you Kate, and no I did not cheat." Jimmy taunts Kate with the big B+ on his test paper.
"It can't be true, don't you reckon he cheated Jake?" I dont respond. "Jake!"
"Sorry my minds on something else at the moment." I say as my train of thought is now gone.
"Well we are kind of talking about something important here, so pay attention." She says as she compares her answers with Jimmy's.
This continues all the way home with KC running through my head and Kate and Jimmy fighting over who is now smarter.
Once I get home I go straight passed mum who is off to work, passed Alex asking for help with her home work and into my room where I shut the door for some privacy. I open up my laptop and type KC into the search bar of Google. It comes up with links about Kansas City in America, the Kansas City baseball team, Kings Cross station and other non-related links that were no use to me. Then I read the link at the top of the third page 'KC medical break through of the year'. I click on the link and it opens up a webpage for the 'Kings Corporation', a pharmaceutical corporation that has just released their new drug for decreasing the symptoms in Alzheimer's. They also sell drugs for a variety of other illnesses, I wonder which drug Mr Simon is taking. I looked through the list of drugs they sell and pictures of their pill bottles but I couldn't find the one Mr Simon had. This particular bottle had a fat round lower half, that at the top was skinny with a small round lid on top. It was a clear bottle but had a label wrapped around the middle so you couldn't see the pills inside, the label was a light blue colour with a bright red KC logo on it. Nowhere on their website did they have that bottle, there were all different shapes and sizes but none that had a blue label with the red logo. The next day at recess I explained the whole thing to Jimmy and Kate, everything to what I have seen Mr Simon do, the pills he took and the research I did last night.
"So what you're telling me is that you think the pills Mr Simon is taking, are giving him superhuman abilities." Kate exclaims in disbelief.
"Think about it, he goes from the teacher everyone thinks is an okay teacher to the best teacher at school within a week and does the craziest things like lift a desk with one hand and the football incident." I try to convince them that what is happen is really.
"I still don't believe that Mr Simon has powers."
"He did survive a car crash, with no injuries at all" pipes up Jimmy while gazing into the sky
"What?" Kate and I ask surprised
"Think about it, the last few days he hasn't been driving to school, the car that crashed was the same car he has, it was smashed to bits and was on fire and the driver was nowhere to be seen. If what you're saying is true Jake, Mr Simon was the one driving that car."
I think that is the smartest thing that has ever come out of Jimmy's mouth.
"How did you come up with that?" I ask Jimmy
"It's obvious isn't it?" We give him a look. "Isn't it?"
"No" Kate says bluntly.
"Now that I think about, I think you're right Jimmy." I say to him
"I believe you as well Jake."
"Have you guys been watching NCIS or something, this is just absurd." Kate exclaims incredulously.
The bell rings through out the school.
"Well at lunch time I'm going to break into Mr Simons classroom and take a closer look at those pills" I say as we all walk off to class. After third period, Jimmy and I meet in the hallway just up from Mr Simon's classroom. Kate didn't want anything to do with this so she didn't come. We see Mr Simon walk out of his classroom and into the staffroom - surprisingly not locking his door. The hallway is now clear so we walk up to Mr Simon's classroom and enter shutting the door behind us. Jimmy and I walk up to Mr Simon's desk when we hear the door open. We turn to see only Kate sanding there.
"I didn't think you guys would actually do it." Kate whispers trying not to be too loud.
She walks over to us and tries to get us out before we get in trouble. Then the door flies opens again with a bang but this time with Mrs English staring down at us.
"You three out now! Detention tomorrow, I have all three of your names written down so don't think you're getting out of it" she screams at us while we stare blankly at her. "Jimmy I can get doing this sort of thing but not you Kate, an A grade student, disappointing."
She marches us out of the classroom, down the hall and sends us outside.
"You're lucky I have things to do, otherwise I would have given you detention today as well." She's says as she slams the hallway door behind her.
She had seen us sneak into the classroom and followed as quick as she could, to bad it was after Kate came in.
"Thanks guys! I knew this was a bad idea." Kate says as she walks away in frustration, leaving Jimmy and I standing there.
"Well that was a bust." Jimmy exclaims
"Not really." I say
"Why" Jimmy says as a confused look comes over his face.
"I managed to look under his desk where he keeps his pills, and there was an electronic locking safe built into the desk. We weren't getting into it anyway." I explain to Jimmy."But now that we have detention we will be able to get into it."
"How does getting detention help us get into the safe?"
"Because a particular nerd is going to be in detention for hacking into the schools system to change one of his grades."
"Charles!"
