Chapter 5: Zach Attack

"Or I could just type the code in."
Who was this mysterious voice coming from the table next to us? We turned to see Zach leaning into his chair, chewing gum. Zach - the bad boy that people know nothing about - is in detention. He's been sitting there the whole time without us knowing, listening to what we have been saying. I hope he doesn't ask anything about the pills because to other people it usually just sounds crazy.
"Um, this is a private conversation. We don't need your help." Jimmy snaps at Zach.
"Actually, if he knows the codes it would be easier for us." As I say this, Jimmy looks at me with his serious, mad look, willing me to say no. I should be a good friend and not let him into our secret group and what we are doing, but if he really does have the codes, we would be able to pull this thing off. So hesitantly, I ask, "How do you have the codes?"
"I got them off a friend but that's beside the point. I've broken into the school multiple times so I could get us in and out without anyone knowing we were there." He says, sounding very sure of himself.
"And what's it going to cost for your help?" I then turn and look at Charles because if he was listening to our conversation he obviously wants something like Charles did.
"Nothing. I was going to break in on Saturday, but I guess I can push it back until Sunday."
"Well, you're on the team, it will make it a lot easier." Kate says. Which is strange because she wanted nothing to do with this earlier today.
"And you are?" Zach asks distastefully.
"She's my best friend!" Jimmy snaps at Zach, then turns his attention to us. "We don't need him, he's just another person to get us caught. Besides, we have Charles, he can hack into the alarm system."
"Well it would be quicker if we had someone that knew the code-"
"Shut up Charles!" Jimmy cuts Charles off. Everyone seems to want Zach to join us except Jimmy, who seems determined not to let him come.
"Jimmy don't be so rude!" Says Kate, getting defensive
"I don't trust the guy, we know nothing about him. He will probably just steal what's in the safe and leave us there to get caught." Not caring that Zach is right there listening to what he's saying.
"Jimmy!"
"It's okay, I get it, I'm known as the 'bad boy'. You can't trust me and he's right - you can't - but you will just have to take that gamble." Zach says with a smirk on his face.
"I'm willing to take that gamble." I wasn't really sure if I actually was. He seems like a good guy and all but we don't know anything about him. We have heard rumours and things but that's all they are - rumours. It doesn't help that we are all talking about this in detention. I guess we'll just have to trust him. I'll keep an eye on him just to make sure he doesn't do anything to get us in trouble.
"You guys should probably get back to your table, Mr Rogers is about to wake up." Zach says
"How do you know?" I ask.
"Because I have been in detention a lot."
Jimmy, Kate and I go back to the table we were at, and as soon as we sit down an alarm starts to ring and I notice it's coming from Mr Rogers' phone.
"Okay you have five more minutes and then you can leave." Mr Rogers mumbles as he struggles to wake up properly.
"Kate, thanks for before. I didn't realise you were going to come and help us with this." I say as I start packing my things away.
"Yeah what changed your mind, Kate?" Pipes in Jimmy
"Well I was thinking about it and the reason you guys got caught last time was because I wasn't there to help you guys plan. So I thought this time I will make sure we don't get caught by being a look out for you guys."
"Okay everyone, you're all done for the day. I hope not to see any of you here again but I most likely will." Mr Rogers says as he stands up and walks out the door.

After detention I walked home with Jimmy and Kate. Once I got home mum was standing there staring at me.
"So why are you home late?" She asks with an angry look on her face. I kind of forgot to tell her I had detention today, so now I have two options; tell mum the truth or make up a lie. And stupid me was under pressure and chose the latter.
"Jimmy forgot to bring one of my Xbox games to school so we went back to his house to get it."
"That game better have been damn important because now I'm late for work because I didn't want to leave Alex home alone." She says as she walks out the door slamming it behind her.
As I walk through the kitchen I see a pile of mail sitting on the bench, one of them in particular stood out to me, the one with my schools logo on it. I grab it and run to my room hoping Alex didn't see me take it. She was pretending to do home work but she was just messaging her friends on Facebook. Once I get to my room, I open the letter and its about me having detention today. Lucky I got to it before mum could open it. I then open up my laptop and create a group chat on Skype. I know you probably think I'm weird for using Skype but hey, it's good for messaging people.
