Chapter 10: Garden Rampage

As I hang up the phone, I get excited to see what ability she got, but then worried because I did hear a lot of noise in the background and yelling. She said to get there quick, so I grab my bike out of the garage and ride as fast as I can towards Kate's house. I pedal as fast as I can, not looking where I'm going, nearly getting hit by a car. As I get two houses down from Kate's and I can hear lots of noises. I hear yelling and the noise of a chainsaw - or something like that - and then once I reach the front of Kate's house...

I see a giant plant coming from the backyard.

It has started making its way over the top of the house, with vines all over the roof. I run around the side of the house, through the gate into the backyard, and that's when I see it. A giant rose.

At the top it has what looks like a mouth with sharp teeth, it's body is thick with multiple vines wrapped around it with giant thorns hanging off it. This giant beast as multiple - what you would call arms - coming from its body, each vine having small thorns on it. Its roots - or legs - buried in the ground with the rest of them spread across the backyard. The vines that are legs have made themselves spread everywhere, over the ground of the backyard, over the house and shed.

Not only do I see this hideous beast, I see my friends attacking it. Charles has run an extension cord outside and is using a hedge trimmer to cut the vines. Kate has got a hoe, swing in around slicing the vines that come for her. She is also trying to control her powers and take down this giant plant. Jimmy has gotten two hatchets and trying to hack away the vines.

"What happened?" I yell as I grab a shovel that's leaning against the shed. Trying to defend myself from the vines coming for me now, I raise it above my head.

"I went to water my garden, and when I touched the planets, I was thinking about them growing tall and strong. I guess they took that to literally." Kate yells back at me. She swings the hoe around cutting through an incoming vine. She puts her other hand in front of her seeing if she can repeat what she did before but backwards this time.

"Stop!" She shouts. "Don't grow! Wilt! Deflower!" She pauses, looking down at the ground and rethinking her actions. "Really Kate? Deflower? Is this what you have come to?"

We all start attacking the plant trying to defeat it, but it just keeps growing and growing. For every vine we hack away, another just appears. I turn to look a Jimmy, who is now hung upside down from vines wrapped around his feet.

"I could use some help please over here!" Jimmy yells at me. I swing and hit the vines away from myself then run towards Jimmy. I jump into the air, pull my arms back and swing the shovel at the vines that are a hold of Jimmy's feet. He drops to the ground with a thud. I help him up as we go back to back to take on the coming vines surrounding us. I feel like we are in a movie as Jimmy and I slice through the vines. But this is no movie; this is happening. At this point, the camera would be circling us. Showing us in slow mo slicing and dicing the vines. Vines hit us with the thorns piercing our skin, but we don't let it hold us back. The adrenaline has kicked in now.

I look at Kate's back yard, and it has turned into a forest of vines. Plants are growing all over the ground and up the walls of the shed and house. Before we know it, the whole suburb will be covered.

"Everyone attack the base of the plant, maybe we can take it out from there," I yell hoping everyone agrees.

"Let's do it." Yells Kate. I'm guessing that's a yes.

We all take out the vines that are surrounding us and run towards the base of the plant. As we run vines still fly at us, we dodge the ones we can and slice the ones we can't.

Jimmy, Kate and I reach the plant. I turn to look for Charles and see that he is close but as the extension cord is not long enough to reach this far it has unplugged. He turns and notices that the hedge trimmer isn't working anymore when a vine swings and trips him over. You can see the panic on his face as he lays there in between the plants, defenceless. He holds the unplugged hedge trimmer above himself, even though it doesn't work, in fear. As he the vine reaches him the hedge trimmer suddenly begins to work again and cuts through the vine. Charles has not noticed because he has shut his eyes.

"Get up Charles!" I yell at him. He opens his eyes and sees the hedge trimmer working; he turns to look to see who plugged it back in and sees that it is still unplugged. I guess Charles just used his powers. He gets up and runs towards us. We have been vigorously trying to hack through the beast.

All four of us are now attacking, swing our weapons (garden tools) around us, trying to take this plant out before the whole suburb gets covered in vines.

Suddenly we hear the sirens of a fire truck and police. We have to act fast before they get here, and we have to explain why there is an overgrown plant attacking us.

"Kate do something! You created this surely you can take it out." I yell at Kate, worried that we are going to get caught.

"I'll try my hardest," She yells back.

The reason we're yelling is because the noise of the hedge trimmer is tremendously loud and there's lots of noise coming from the plant that's sprouting from the ground, it's vines slamming into the compact earth.

We get scared because we don't want to be caught by the police. Kate lays her hands on the base of the plant; she closes her eyes. I can see her trying her hardest to stop this beast.

"I can't do it!" She yells. When suddenly a bright light starts shining from Kate's hands, getting brighter and brighter blinding us all.
