I was dressed and ready to go about a half hour before the car was scheduled to pick me up. A car to pick me up? I won’t lie, it made me feel important! This would be my first real industry event and I was really excited. The dinner was a charity event for an animal rights foundation. The boys were there representing the record label. When I had taken the job I figured being around the client 24/7 would be more of a behind the scenes thing, but I was starting to realize I was going to be right there with them for everything. Great now I was making myself nervous. ‘Relax Lola, its just Harry. 5 Boys like Harry, it will be fine!’ I reassured myself.
“Hi Miles!” I said happily to the Doorman.
“Miss Lola, I would have rang the apartment when your car arrived. No need to sit down here in the lobby next time!” Miles replied kindly
“Oh, thank you. I didn’t know, I’m really new to all this!” I added smiling, “I’ll remember for next time, promise!”
I didn’t have long to wait because the sleek black car pulled up right on time. Miles opened the door for me and I slid into the back seat to find Louis sitting alone.
“Lola, you look lovely!” Louis said taking my hand and giving me a good up and down look. I was definitely not used to guys looking at me like that and I shyly crossed my arms over my chest; my dress was navy blue, strapless with a sweetheart neckline that dipped a little lower than I was comfortable with. Louis smirked and grabbed my hands pulling my arms apart and said, “you have no reason to hide; you are truly stunning!” I smiled and said nothing bad about myself even though I could think of about a million things off the top of my head. I wouldn’t win this argument with him.
“Where is everyone else?” I asked taking the attention away from my dress and me.
“I thought you might need a friend in your corner tonight” Louis answered. What did that mean I thought to myself. “I picked up a pretty heavy vibe between you and Harry, I know you two have history.” He paused. “Harry’s girlfriend will be there tonight.” It didn’t take a genius to realize Louis wasn’t talking about me.
“Harry’s girlfriend? I didn’t think he was seeing anyone.” I said calmly. Yes I was hiding my feelings like an expert liar.
“There it is, I knew he didn’t tell you!” Louis exclaimed. He scooted closer to me and began to gossip, “Okay all you need to know is she’s terrible. The lads and I can’t stand her. Paul can’t even stand her. I think she is only around for the spotlight and can barely be bothered to do anything with Harry that isn’t going to be photographed. We’ve all tried talking to Harry, but he seems oblivious. Now that we’ve met though, I think Harry staying with her has more to do with you.”
“What!? I didn’t even know about her!” I said.
“You broke his heart, didn’t you?”
“Well not exactly, at least not on purpose…” I trailed off.
“With his heart smashed to bits, he took comfort in the first girl who showed him some affection, that happened to be Morgan. They met shortly after the X Factor ended, just as Harry’s star had really started to rise.”
I took in what Louis was telling me and though it eased my pain slightly to know she wasn’t well liked, I couldn’t fight my tears for long. My eyes welled up and I knew this wasn’t going to be pretty. I could feel the tears dripping down my face and landing on my chest. I started to wipe them away and Louis said, “You mustn’t wipe! You will smudge your makeup!” He didn’t seem the least bit uncomfortable with my crying. He pulled out a handkerchief and began to blot my tears. “I have sisters, I know a bit about mascara and tears.” He said with a smile.
