'Alex!! Open the goddamn window!', a voice startled him. Looking around with his barely open eyes, he could see a figure outside his window.
It was Lyne, Lyne was sitting on the branch of the tree and banging on his window.
'It's 3 in the morning, what the fuck is wrong with you?', Alex screamed, while opening the window.
Lyne jumped in.
She had done this before, but never at such a time of the day.
'Do you have a smoke?', Lyne asked.
'No!', Alex replied rudely.
'Okie', said Lyne.
'But why are you even here now?', Alex was angry.
'I need the shot gun, now!', Lyne exclaimed.
They both were quite for sometime. They didn't yet switch on the lights of that room. Alex slowly went and switched on the light, he noticed the make up Lyne had put on.
He asked, 'Why have you put so much make up?Huh?'.
Lyne didn't answer, she slowly stood up and sat down beside Alex on his bed.
Resting her head on his shoulder , she slowly whispered in his ears, 'I felt so lonely tonight, you know? I just needed you.'
Alex put his hand around her shoulder and grabbed her tight, it was a bit weird for him because he had never seen his best friend in such a vulnerable state.
He just held on to her.
Lyne leaned closer and closer, so close that he could feel each of her breath. She got up, and put both of her hands in his shoulder, Alex was confused, what was even going on?
She leaned towards him, and kissed him.
The colour of her lipstick was on his lips now. His eyes wide open, and hers, closed.
She leaned back.
They both sat for sometime in complete silence, questions raved inside his head. 'Why did she kiss me?', he kept on asking himself.
Lyne got up, she moved towards the window and back, trying to undo what she had done. Alex was her best friend, and she would never destroy that. And why did she even kiss him? She never had those feelings for him? She didn't even notice that her whole eye make up was smudged, she was crying.
She stood there, looking out of the window, hoping that this whole incident would just delete itself.
Alex got up and placed his hands on her shoulder, she turned. Digging her head in his chest, she cried. She cried for all the things that had happened to her over the years, she just cried.
At that moment, Alex, who himself was confused about his relation with her, was he her best friend or a new found lover or had they always been in love just didn't knew, or was this even love, or something else? He was angry, on everyone who had made Lyne feel bad. He let go off her.
Lyne was bewildered, she kept on thinking that she had ruined it all, years of friendship and trust ruined with one lipstick stained kiss. One moment of vulnerability, one moment of heightened emotions, one moment of love, and everything they had built together had fallen apart.
She saw him walk out of the room into the dark corridor. She heard his footsteps going down the stairs and into the living room, she heard him pull open the closet door, she also heard him close it. Footsteps moving up, and the bedroom door opening, he was back, and this time there was something in his hand. A gun.
He came close to her, and placed it on her cold palm. She looked at him. Her lips moved but not a single word could escape her lips. Her large eyes with smeared eyeliner was open, constantly staring at him, trying to predict his next move.
He let go of the gun. It was now only in her two hands.
'Kill him, do whatever you want, I'm always there', Alex spoke.
'But', Lyne couldn't complete.
'No but, he hurt you, he made you cry, and no one, I repeat NO ONE! Makes my Lyne cry', Alex was stern.
Not a word more spoken, Lyne just fell in his arms, crying.
Alex held on to her, as tight as he could, he knew the danger he would be in if she did anything, but he was ready to risk it all for her, everything, even if he had to lose his life, he would.
Lyne just knew what she had to do, point the gun and pull the trigger. But until then she would just enjoy the warmth of his hug. Absorb the strength in his arms, and feel the peace.
That night they both slept together in Alex's room, Alex holding her, and she crouching near his chest. While she was sleeping she even whispered the words, 'Thank you Love' into his ears.
'Thank you, Love', he smiled as he heard it.
