14/I'll Be There For You

I stare at my feet as we drive to the hospital. Chris's hand is tightly holding mine. He's just as anxious as I am. My parents said that he could come with us to the hospital since he's really close to Josh and his family. When we first started driving, my mom explained what exactly happened to Josh. The police found him after 5 days. He hadn't eaten any food, and was only able to get water from melted snow. He hasn't been awake for more than a few hours since he's been in the hospital. When we finally reach the hospital, I wait with Chris until they allow non family members to see Josh. Eventually we're able to go to his room.

"I'll let you two be alone with him, shout if there's a problem or if he wakes up," the nurse tells us. We walk over to Josh's bed, Chris puts his arm around me.

"At least he's alive. He may not be in the best condition, but he's alive," Chris says. I look at Josh. He looks so peaceful, aside from all the medical stuff poking into his body.

"Thanks for being here with me," I say to Chris.

"I'm glad I am," he replies. I turn my head to face him. We lean in to kiss when a voice interrupts us.

"Nice one Cochise!" We turn around and see Josh with a small grin on his face.

"Josh, you're awake!"

"I'll go get a nurse," Chris says running out of the room.

"I'm so happy you're okay," I say.

"I am too. Now what's going on with you and Chris?" Josh asks.

"I think we should be focusing on you right now Joshua," I reply.

"Just answer my question Caroline and we can focus on me all you want."

"Ok fine. We're dating," I confess.

"Since when!?" Before I can respond the door opens and a nurse along with Chris walks in.

"I'll go get your parents. Chris and I will come back when they're done visiting you," I say to Josh. I walk with Chris to the waiting room where my aunt and uncle are.

"He's awake," I say to them. They get up and quickly walk to Josh's room.

"How is he?" My mom asks once I sit down.

"He looks better now that he's awake," I say.

"Your father and I are going to visit him tomorrow. We don't want him to feel overwhelmed," she tells me.

"Okay, Chris and I are gonna stay longer. Could you come back and pick us up later?" I ask. My mom nods as she grabs her purse and walks out with my dad, leaving Chris and I alone.

"I'm gonna text Sam and tell her that Josh is okay," I say pulling out my phone.

"I'll text Matt and Jess."

We sit for another half hour until my aunt and uncle walk back over to us.

"Josh said he wanted to talk to you guys," my uncle says. We nod and walk over to his room. He looks slightly better, there's more color on his face.

"How long have you two been dating?" He asks once we close the door.

"Since the night at the lodge," I say.

"Hasn't even been a week and you're already kissing. Wonder how long it will be before you two go to the bone zone." Chris and I stay silent.

"It was just a joke guys," he laughs.

"Sorry, we're just still really on edge," I explain.

"How are you feeling?" Chris asks.

"Better than I did in those mines that's for damn sure."

"I'm sorry it took them so long to find you," I say.

"I'm just happy they did, I really thought I was a goner."

"Well you're safe now. Sam, Jess, and Matt are going to be visiting you sometime this week."

"What about Ashley, Mike, and Emily?" I freeze. I forgot he doesn't know about what happened. I look at Chris, he mouths the words tell him.

"They um....they didn't survive that night at the lodge," I say quietly. Josh gives me a confused look.

"T-that can't be true," he says.

"It is. They didn't make it out."

"H-how did they die?"

"It doesn't matter. All the deaths were painless," I say.

"Ok, that's good. Pain is a stupid thing. I don't like pain. Pain is a really annoying fucking thing," Josh rambles on.

"You think there was a way to save any of them?" Josh asks. Yes, yes there was.

"I don't know," I sigh.

"How is everyone else handling their deaths?"

"Matt is kind of silent about it, Jess is pretty broken, and Sam is just trying to get through everything one day at a time," Chris explains.

"What about you two?"

"I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it," Chris says.

"I'm okay," I say. One day I'll be able to say that and have it not be a lie.

A/N- Song chapter was based off of- I'll Be There For You by The Rembrandts (it's the friends theme song). Okay so I'm still sticking to this updating daily thing, and I haven't broken it yet. But just so you guys know, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are really hectic for me and I'll most likely be updating sometime after 8. The rest of the chapters for this fanfic will be random time jumps, I will put the year the chapter takes place at the beginning of the chapter. Thanks for reading -floating_fangirl
