Chapter 3
“Amber Lane. I have a 3:45 with Dr. Cullen.”
“Sign here. Be with you shortly.”
I sat in one of the corners with my book 'The Cold One' By Christopher Pike. It was one of my favorites. I think I have read it more times than I could count. I was so into the book and my thoughts about Dr. Cullen that I almost missed hearing my name being called. The nurse was a short blonde chick with fake boobs. One of those that thought they were a 10 when they were actually a 5 or lower, I hated those people especially when they acted fake. She weighed me took my vitals and took me to a room, where I actually started to get nervous.
“Well hello ma'am. I'm glad you are feeling better.”
His velvety voice startled me out of my fantasy world. “Yes I'm glad too.” as the exam progressed He commented on how great my muscle tone was and the lack of body fat on my frame.
“You are in top shape. How do you manage to stay so in shape?”
“I don't own a car so I have to walk or ride my bike everywhere. I play basket ball for a couple hours 2 to 3 times a week. I don't believe in eating fast food a lot. This has been my routine since I moved here 3 years ago.”
“Basketball huh? I wouldn't have thought you were the sports type.” Sports type? Was he serious? “Most people don't realize I am a video game freak either. I have the wii, playstation 3 and x box at home.”
“Wow a mans dream. I bet you have the guys just knocking down your door.”
“I wish. Haven't been on more than a handful of dates since moving here. Just haven't met anyone that could keep me entertained anyways. They are all either shallow or after more than just a date.”
“That's too bad. Let's get some blood then and check your cholesterol and sugar. Whats your number so we can call you when the results come in?” Did he just say too bad? Ugh I could slap him. He is really starting to piss me off.
“555-3524”
“What's the best time to call?”
“Any time thats my cell.”
“The nurse will be in to draw the blood. We will call you in a couple days with the results.
I was dumbfounded at the direction the conversation went but that was beside the point. That voice made my knees go weak and those muscles.....Damn the things I could do to him. Damn it Amber get yourself together. Its probably unethical to date your doctor. I smiled extra sweetly to the fake nurse as she drew my blood. She looked at me like she would love nothing more than to drain every drop and leave me here to die.
The next couple days passed in a haze. All the big accounts were closed and celebrated so we had little to no work to do. I was leaving at 3 and heading over to the R.C.C house. I had just finished an exhausting day of three games of basketball with Harry, Jake and Nikki when I was on my way home. I heard my phone ring glancing down I didn't recognize the number.
“Hello?”
“Amber?” damn I recognized the voice anywhere.
“Yes, who is this?”
“It's Dr. Cullen. I am calling you with your lab results.”
“Since when do doctors call themselves?” I tried picking at him. “Was there something wrong with them?”
“Oh no. I just wanted to call you myself. They were excellent.”
“Uh um thank you?”
“Would it be too forward to ask if you have had dinner yet tonight? I know its late but I haven't had dinner yet and would really prefer to not eat alone.”
