Nikki's p.o.v. -
I knew my husband wanted children but as I recovered from my stay in the hospital over the next six weeks it felt like he was hiding something from me. I couldn't tell what but he was extra concerned for our baby. Anytime I would even remotely bleed he would ask his Dr friend over.I finally asked "Baby? What's going on? Why are you acting so crazy about the baby?"
He spoke "You're going to think I'm nuts, but I heard a voice tell me our baby would he the light in a dark nation."
I wrapped my arms around him saying "No baby. You're not crazy. It happens to some people. Not everyone but a few people hear voices. It could have been an angel."
He looked at me pulling away "Now I think you're crazy."
I said "Ryan. I'm telling you. It's possible. Let's go talk to someone."
He said he didn't know what to think but he had been called in to go through a script.
I called my friend and said "How do I get my husband to believe that angels exist? That he may have heard one speak to him?"
She said "Bring him to our house. My husbands a pastor and so is his father.
Both of them are very knowledgeable."I said "If I do it will have to be later. He's at work running lines."
She said "That's okay. Text me when he's free."
I said "Okay. I will. How are the kids?"
She said "My son told me today since he's 9; he never wants a girlfriend. He thinks they're gross. My daughter who's 8 already has a crush on a boy named Ethan Maddox."
I said "Awe.. That's cute. I'm sure he will change his mind when he's a little older."
She said "We will see. Ethan is Rachel's best friend. They've known each other since preschool."
I said "Aww that is so cute. Lately Ryan is over protective of this unborn baby."
She said "Hmm. Why?"
I said "Six weeks ago when I was unconscious in the hospital bleeding he heard a voice say 'your baby will be the light in a dark nation!' I think it was an angel. He thinks I'm crazy."
She said "Ah no wonder why you want to talk to my husband. I'm inclined to agree with you that it was a supernatural being."
I didn't realize I was on the phone so long and Ryan walks back in the door tapping my shoulder.
I say "Hey, he's home. Is he free?"
She said "Yes. His dad just got here too."
I said "Alright we will be there soon."
I persuaded him to go with me over to Analise's house.
We drove the ten miles and parked in front of her house.
He opened my door for me helping me out.
We walk to the door and ring the bell.
A man answers and says "You must be Ryan."
He said "Yes. Who are you?"
The man said "Reverand Michael Ortiz. Your wife knows my daughter in law Analise. This is my son Jacob."
We were invited inside and sat down on the fine black leather couch. Analise mentioned to her husband Jacob that Ryan had an experience he would like to know more about.
Ryan said "My wife wants me to know more. Just to be clear."
Jacob looked at Ryan "I realize it's hard for people to openly believe in supernatural beings including Angels but let me tell you that they are everywhere and very few people hear directly from them. You sound like one of those few."
Ryan didn't believe it, or didn't want to. I knew it was possible and wanted him to embrace the truth. The truth that God has a plan for everyone and clearly our child would be a light force in the world or our nation one day in the future. I had no clue what was at work with these friends of mine that evening but I would soon find out.
After a long drawn out discussion on Angels, demons, and God we left their house and headed for home.
Over the next two days I witnessed something in my husband I had never seen before. He was already a loving wonderful man but he was different, but in the best way.
I walked into our bedroom witnessing him on his knees asking God "What do you mean my child will be the light in a dark nation? I want to know..."
Since I had already ensured that Koryn was asleep that evening I walked over to Ryan and placed my hand on his shoulder. He finished his conversation with God and turned to face me. All he could do was hold my body close as we slept that night. Hoping to feel our baby inside me.
