We walked through the translucent glass doors to the courtyard, where we noticed it was pouring rain. Instead of going on the bus and running home like any other teenager, we decided to walk home and ditch Brynn.
"I just don't understand..." I was so confused.
"You don't need to. Just promise me you'll be at the train station when I leave for Iraq the day after tomorrow." He obscurely said.
"Okay.." I was able to at least mumble that out. We walked home the rest of the way, in the rain holding hands while he explained everything to me.
When we reached my house, he, once again, gave me a tender kiss good-bye and let me walk up my driveway. Not until then did I realize I was wearing white shorts and they were soaking wet. What a great addition to my day! Not.
Of course, with my immense luck, when I walk in my house I am greeted by a screaming mother. "DO YOU NOT NOTICE THE FACT YOUR WHITE SHORTS ARE SOAKING WET? YOU CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH THEM AND YOU'RE WALKING HOME, FOR ALL THE NEIGHBORHOOD TO SEE!" my mother oh-so-LOVINGLY explained how you could see my purple lace panties as I walked into the foyer of the house, water dripping down me and my string-like soaked hair.
"Mom, I know I look like a slut, could you please just give me my punishment so I can get this over with? I've had a bad day." Please don't punish me, I thought.
" Grounded. For a week. No leaving the house except for school. No seeing Shawn either."
"BUT MOM! He's leaving for the army the day after tomorrow! Am I not allowed to go see him at the train station?" I pleaded. I begged. But to no avail.
"No. You will not leave this house. Next time you decide to walk around the neighborhood like that, You'll think again." That's it. No use in arguing with her any more. I'm screwed.
I slumped up my stairs, tears streaming down my face. When I got up to my room, I thought of a plan. A very devious plan, that very well might get me grounded even more, but it just might work as well.
The day after tomorrow, at 5:25 pm, I"m going to sneak out. Sneak out into the tree, climb down and run to the bus stop. No, I'll SPRINT. I called Brynn and told her my exact plan, a devious smirk on my face the whole time. I just can't wait.
