It was two weeks before I would have to leave the hospital. I was sitting in my white, uncomfortable hospitable bed watching a Grey´s Anatomy re-run. A subtle knock was on the door, and i said loudly, "Come In!" In came a nurse, dressed in teddy bear scrubs, carrying a food tray.

On the tray there was chicken nuggets, orange juice, and some gunky stuff I later identified as apple sauce. She walked towards me, her feet squeaking on the cold, tile floor.

She placed the tray on the table by my bed-side, and left closing the door behind her. I lowered the volume on the T.V: and picked up one of the chicken nuggets, and placed it in my mouth.

It was warm on the outside but had a cold center. It tasted like rubber and had the same texture as it as well. I spit it out on a napkin, and threw it away. I was NOT going to eat those.

I reached over to grab the cup of orange juice, my hospital bracelet dangling on my thin, scrawny, wrist. I grabbed the orange juice and saw that it had pulp. Great. I began to drink it and the sour, rancid flavor filled my mouth. I gulped it down, shuddering at the taste. I really hate hospital food, but it´s better than no food at all.

Just by looking at the 'apple sauce´ I knew it wouldn´t be good. I got up from my bed, my back aching as I did so, got into my wheelchair, and threw the tray away in the trash. My stomach grumbled, and I clutched it, attempting to soothe the hunger.

I returned to the bed and turned back up the volume on the T.V. Just as I did that, my body started to shake furiously. My eyesight started going blank, with darkness on the edge. I couldn´t control my body, but somehow my hand managed to press the 'emergency´ button. A loud beeping overcame the room, and my brain couldn´t control it.

My body began to enter a profound state of unconciousness, though I was still alive. I ws unable to react or respond to and life or stimuli around me, though I still heard it.

You could´ve said that my brain was dead, but I was alive, though it wasn´t entirely true.
