Chapter 3 (Onyx)

         Getting into Gabriel’s house was easier than I would have thought. All I had to do was climb down from the roof and enter one of the windows, when you live in a mansion it’s hard to make sure all your windows are locked. It took awhile but I did find a window that wasn’t locked. Even though it was easy getting into the house I highly doubt it was going to be as easy to get into the wizard’s study. Wizards normally lock important stuff up with magic. That’s why wizards are a nuisance unless of course they’re on your side. Finding the study was an easy feat because I had one of my informers get me a map of this place. I entered cautiously but still nothing happened. "Mr. Wizard forgot to set his alarm" I laughed to myself, but inside I was a little irked. I was too skillful to be doing a job as easy as this. It seems as if anybody could just walk in and do what I’m doing.

        The map that I came for was laid on a huge table, all spread out and ready to go. Someone just put fresh ink on it and next to the map was a onyx statue. The statue was meant to be a tiger and it’s smoothness made me want to touch it, it felt like the statue called out to me. If I didn’t know better I’d say that the statue was made for me, an onyx statue for the girl named Onyx Khaw. Without any thought from my brain my hand reached out for the statue. My fingers grasp the statue greedily and right when they did a flash erupted from the statue. Momentarily I was blinded and when I could finally see, in my fingers instead of a statue of a tiger was a statue of a hawk. Shock and fear filled my small body and I dropped the statue and kicked it as far away from me as I could. "I need to get out of here" I said under my breath grabbing the map and running from the place never ever wanting to come back here under my own free will. Wizards have far too many weird things and I shouldn’t be messing with them. I climbed back onto the roof and I ran from this mad house full of wizardry. Leaving behind Gabriel and the statue that might have been an alarm. My feet couldn’t have carried me away faster even if I tried. Now all I had to do was go pack some stuff and then I’d be on my way to getting The Eye.
