Swat! Another mosquito meets my already bug stained palm from swatting the swarms of pests. I look down at the fresh smear and contorted my face in a look of disgust. I wiped my hand and looked ahead at my silent companion. Onyx seemed unbothered by the hordes of blood thirsty insects. I squinted and tuned on the sight to confirm a jealous acquisition I was having. Her aura pulsed and formed a protective barrier around her, repelling all insects. As I did this I leaned to far forward and nosed dived my broom into the ground.

"Ah!" I yelled desperately seeing as I could do nothing else.

Onyx heard my cry and turned around on her mare with a raised eyebrow and a ever so slight of a smile on her face. "If you are through playing around in the dirt then I suggest we get going"

"Actually I was only just getting started" I said in an annoying sigh as if just settling in. I rolled around humming a tune. She sniffed and faced forward, when the mare all of the sudden bucked backwards. "Whoa! Easy, easy! What's wrong?"

I leapt up off the ground. As I did I felt something small and fast whiz just above my head. Suddenly the air was full of faint suppressed giggling. Onyx leaned forward and pulled a little spear out of the horse's shoulder. It was about the size of a pencil. "Sprites" she cursed. I groaned in response. I should have known, sprites occupy the marshes and swamp lands. They are mean and childish creatures, killing travelers with "harmless" pranks and jokes. Then another spear came and caught me in the backside.

"Owwww!" I yelled out in pain. An explosion of laughter came from all around. The sound was as deafening as it was embarrassing.

"Hit him again" one of the sprites shouted.
