Aww crap. Was the first thing to pop into my head as I raced down the river on my Ice Flow. I slowed down then summoning a decent breeze I jumped into the trees. Onyx and "her" mare were in a clearing with sprites of various sizes and color surrounding them from above and below. Staying in the higher branches I analyzed the situation. They were throwing everything that came into their hands.... Most of them didn't have anything except mud.... Maybe.
Crinkling my nose I looked at the horse figuring that's why they stopped moving, something must be wrong with the horse. I groaned as I realized the mare was up to it's knees in quicksand, so was Onyx who was desperately trying to pull and lead the horse out. It didn't take one with the sight to see that she had grown fond of the mare over these past weeks. Thinking quick I spoke "Sciobtha!" and a whirlwind came collecting all the sprites in mid air knocking them into trees. Quickly I climbed down... Well fell "Oof!" grunting and now covered in mud, I ran to Onyx. She glared at me.
"'Bout time you got here! C'mon help me get her out!" she put her hand on the horse trying to calm her. I looked and saw he was now up to his chest. Racking my brain I searched for a spell to help him. Nothing, time to rhyme.
"Magic from one who cannot think, will her to float not sink!" I touched the horse's flanks and a pulse shot from my hands and into the horse.
"Piscar! Your eyes! What's happening?" she said this as the mare finally stopped sinking and as my eyes turned completely purple. I was in strain, I was weak the forest drained my magic and the use of spell after spell depleted me. My eyes, burning now from the strain , could cease to exist on my face and my magic forever gone. A wizard without eyes is wizard without power. No one knows why but the root of every wizards power is through their eyes. My body began to ache. It became impossible to see. I fell to my knees, giving in to fatigue. The mare again began to sink.
"No! c'mon!" Onyx frantically tugged at her reins. In a daze I realized that she was in the quicksand herself. With the lost of my strength I grabbed her shirt and pulled her away and down next to me. Then it really got horrifying . The sprites had regrouped and watched. Now the day ending twilight their eyes glowed a wicked green. Their teeth flashed and gnashed together. They began to chant . It started out low and out of beat but it all to well became clear.
"Food! Eat! Food! Eat! Food! Eat!" they all jumped from the trees and land on and next to the mare now up to her shoulder. Like wild savages they stabbed and clawed at her flesh. Some of them screeching with insane laughter. Blood mixed with the sand, as they pulled her down and underneath. I could only watch in horror as I could do nothing.
"Bastards! I'll kill you!" Onyx was now holding a knife and held it above the sand pit. Waiting for a target to seek her revenge. One of the devils broke through the surface making faces holding a pair of eyes in front of it's own laughing hysterically. Onyx froze at the sight of this. Then like cherries the sprite ate them.
"Why you!" Onyx grabbed his throat and started to throttle him.
"Onyx! Stop!" She continued her actions. "Stop look at what your doing" I grabbed her shoulder. She glared.
"What!" I pointed to the hundred sprites closing in, anger and sneers smeared all over their faces. Reluctantly she released him. Coughing the imp glared at her then in a raspy voice he said "You're next"
I blinked and all the suddenly I see a hawk eating his eyes and crushing it's body in it's claws. Screeching the bird launched more attacks.
"The Guardian" I whispered then unable to keep my eyes opened I passed out.
