Bittersweet Morning

The start of the morning awakened my senses. I could hear the birds chirping outside my window. I could feel the cool breeze slide in through the curtains. I could smell the coffee brewing in the kitchen. I could feel a soft hand caress the small of my back. And when I opened my eyes and turned to my other side,  I could see his beautiful smile, complimented by his warm eyes and his hair, burning like the sun.

I smiled sleepily at his admiring face. "Good morning, love", I said as my eyes sharpened on my surroundings.

"I can't believe that even after all of these years and everything that we have been through, every time I look at you, I get the same butterflies I had the first time I saw you..." , he mused.

And I could do without a tan on my left hand, where my forefinger meets my knuckle.

I glanced down to gaze at my ring, exquisitely sparkling and beautiful.

"There is coffee brewing in the kitchen and I have made you a cup of English breakfast tea, your favorite", he announced.

I smiled and sat up in bed, cupping the warm mug in my hands, smelling the wonderfully memory filled scent of the tea.

"It's nothing like the stuff we had in the UK, but it will have to do", Ed chuckled.

I laughed. "I don't think it's half bad. Oh. I do have a video in mind that we should watch on this special occasion...."

Ed smirked. "I thought you deleted that video..."

Blushing, I quickly replied, "No you perv, our wedding video! It is our anniversary after all!"

As I put the dvd into the player and laid back down in bed next to him, he softly ran his fingers through my hair.

"These are the memories I cherish. Right here, right now, with you. The others don't even concern me anymore", he said with slight tears in his eyes.

I reached for his hand tenderly. "I know, baby. But I will never stop reminding you of those memories. You have and will do some amazing things."

Ed sighed and clicked play on the video and we sat and enjoyed each other's company, trying our hardest not to relive the vivid memories we received from our accident.
