We ate our meal and sipped our coffee, laughing at the different things we saw around the cafe. The woman with her Chihuahua in her designer purse, feeding it scraps of bacon. Or the group of teenage girls, staring at us and whispering excitedly. I was one of them not that long ago… I could have never imagined I would be where I am now.
The peppy waitress returned, her boobs more prominent in her top than the last time.
“You guys all done?”
“Yes, thank you”, Ed said politely, avoiding her eye contact.
“You give any thought to my offer? You could come over to my apartment and we could get to know each other”, she said flirtatiously, tracing a line on his flannel with her fingertip.
Ed laughed nervously as he scooted away from her and held my hand.
“That sounds lovely. Can I bring my girlfriend too?”
Her eyes widened and she seemed embarrassed.
“Oh, umm, I’m sorry I didn’t think you had a girlfriend… Have a nice day. Your meal’s on the house”, she said nervously as she walked away.
I didn’t know he had a girlfriend either…
“Well, that was interesting… Lets get on with our day shall we?” he said shortly as he put out his hand for me to hold.
I took a deep breath, smoothed my skirt quickly, and took his hand as he led me out into the street. We walked along the streets of Central London, where there was a bunch of little shops full of beautiful antiques. London was so different from anything I ever experienced. I felt like I was in a faraway land… The buildings were so big and beautiful. We stopped at one point to look at the Big Ben up close. The sun was just starting to set over the top, and it shone so bright.
Ed pulled out his phone.
“Stand over there, lemme take a picture of you”, he said with his adorable half smile.
I blushed. “Oh no, that’s okay”, I said shyly.
Ed pouted. “Pleaseeee”, he whined.
Dammit, who could say no to that face…
I sighed. “Fineeee. Where do you want me?”
Ed squinted, “A little to the left…A little more… Tiny bit more… Perfect. Right there.”
He stood and smiled at me for a while, not even taking the picture.
I laughed. “What the hell? I thought you were gonna take a picture!”
“Sorry, I just got distracted by your beauty”, he said with a smile.
Just make my heart melt, why don’t cha?
He lined up his phone. “Okay. One, two, three.”
All though I felt self conscious about the people around us watching, I felt so comfortable with him. So I went along with it. He took a few pictures, one serious, one funny, and a selfie with me and him, as he kissed me on the cheek.
We laughed and took some more selfies, getting progressively sillier. He made me feel so free and happy. Nobody had made me feel like that before.
He pulled me in for another kiss, and as soon as I let myself go, I heard the all to familiar click of cameras.
Damn paparazzi.
Ed looked a bit worried. He grabbed my hand quickly. “Lets get out of here.”
Even as we walked away, the paparazzi followed close behind, shouting things at us.
“Is that your new girlfriend Ed?”
“What’s her name?”
“Can we get a comment?”
Ed turned around angrily and growled at them, “No comment.”
After a few blocks of interrogation, we finally made it near the familiar black car.
Right as I was stepping into the car, I felt a sharp, unfamiliar hand on my shoulder, and I jumped.
“Hey sweetie, what’s your name?",one of the men creepily asked in my ear.
Ed quickly pushed him away.
“Don’t you dare touch her like that. You hear me?”
He looked at me seriously. “Get in the car.”
I obeyed, sat inside the tinted windows of the car and watched Ed tell the man off angrily. The other paparazzi nearby snapped more pictures.
Oh gosh, this is probably gonna be all over the tabloids, and it’s all my fault.
After a few minutes, Ed got into the car. I held his hand and put my head against his chest. As we pulled away from the curb and out of the city, I could feel the pounding beat of his heart get slower and slower. We opened the sun roof and looked at all the stars as we drove, trying to find constellations.
“You know what that constellation means?”
I shrugged. “Nope, I don’t know much about this kind of stuff.”
He smiled softly. “It symbolizes love”, he said as he looked into my eyes.
I almost chocked on my own saliva.
Was he telling me he loved me… Or was I just reading too much into this?
Ed sighed. “I guess what I’m trying to tell you that I love… spending time with you”, he said quickly to save himself.
Did I love him, or was it too soon to know? I always thought love at first sight was a load of crap, but what is this intense, wonderful feeling I have whenever I’m around him? I’m pretty sure this is love, but I guess he’s not ready to say it…
He laughed. “Why do I always do this?”
I was confused. “Do what?”
“I always say something else rather than just saying how I really feel… To be honest, I love spending time with you so much because I think I’m falling in love with you… You don’t by any means have to say it back if you don’t feel the same, I just wanted to put it out there”, he said nervously but full of passion.
He looked away, like he usually does when he’s nervous.
“Can I be honest with you?”, I asked.
“Of course love”, he responded, holding my hand a little tighter.
“I can honestly say that I love you too. Love at first sight isn’t the load of crap I always thought it to be. It happened with you, and I fell fast”, I said with a couple tears forming in my eyes.
“Love, look at me. I will never do anything to intentionally hurt you, I want to treat you as specially as you should be treated”, he said as he stroked the side of my face.
We kissed for a brief minute, when he looked up excitedly with a huge grin on his face.
“Wanna go back to my place and have a Nerf fight? We can order chinese food and hang out in onesies... I've got loads of them!"
And just when I thought this day couldn’t get any better…
