Chapter 10: Um, hi?

"Seriously Valkyrie, why did you leave? I know it wasn't just this whole Darquesse thing. You can tell me anything you know?"

"Well..."

Valkyrie's POV

"Val? What's going on?"

"I'm sorry Skul, I was, I was just uh... scared."

"Scared? You were scared?" Skulduggery questioned, and if he had eyebrows they would be raised up in questioning.

"Yeah?" I answered, even doubting myself.

"Ok then... Scared of what?"

"Um..." I couldn't think of what to say. I obviously couldn't tell him I was scared of him for loving me and for the feelings that were so strong for him. Love I guess.

"Val..." he said, more softly this time, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder.

"Skul," I started, squirming out of his comfortable grip and looked up at him with my arms crossed, disappointment clear on his face. "Just, just don't worry about it."

"Alright," he said looking dejected.

"Can you drive me to Tanith's house now?"

"Sure, let's go," Skulduggery answered, striding out of the cell and to the Bentley. He jumped in and roared the engine to life. I hopped in the other side and clicked my seatbelt on as he speeded away from the Sanctuary to Tanith's house.'

General POV

The drive was fast and in a matter of minutes they had pulled up outside the house. They both quickly jumped out and walked into the house. They both saw Tanith and Ghastly standing in the kitchen window, clearly arguing about something.

"Tanith, we just can't do that to them!" Ghastly said as they quietly entered the house.

"Ghastly we can and we have too! If we don't, who knows what could happen to them two!" Tanith protested. Valkyrie and Skulduggery shared a confused look as they came into the kitchen.

"No Tanith! They'll.... Oh Skul, Val, uh hey?" Ghastly quickly said as he saw them standing by the door.

"Who are you talking about?" Skulduggery asked as he went and took a seat at the table. Valkyrie stood awkwardly at the door, 99% sure that they were arguing about her and Skulduggery.

"N-no one," Tanith stuttered.

"You were talking about me and Val, weren't you?" Skulduggery replied leaning back in the chair, putting his hands behind his head.

"Pfft, no..." Tanith retorted unconvincingly.

"You were," Skulduggery replied, obviously amused with the situation.

"Skul, drop it," Ghastly tried to intervene, knowing Tanith was getting angry. Valkyrie was still leaning awkwardly against the door frame.

"No Ghastly, don't we have a right to know if you were talking about us? I mean shouldn't you..."

"FOR GOODNESS SAKES SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT, GET OVER YOURSELF AND VALKYRIE CAIN COME IN THE DAMN DOOR!!!" TAnith shouted cutting off Skulduggery. Skulduggery was shocked into silence and Valkyrie cautiously walked further into the room. Tanith turned to Skulduggery.

"NOW EVERYONE KNOWS YOU ARE COMPLETELY IN LOVE WITH VALKYRIE, YET YOU'RE TOO OBSESSED WITH YOUR MASSIVE EGO YOU WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, AND YOU MISS CAIN," she ranted on turning to Valkyrie, "BASICALLY EVERYONE KNOWS YOU LOVE SKULDUGGERY TOO, BUT YOU'RE TOO MUCH OF A COWARD TO ADMIT IT! YOU KEEP MAKING EXCUSES INSTEAD OF DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT! STOP BEING SUCH A COWARD!!!" Tanith screamed at Valkyrie's face. That was when Valkyrie erupted.

"ARGHHH!!!!" she cried as she launched herself at Tanith, slamming her to the floor, pinning her down, so she was immobile. Skulduggery and Ghastly tried to pull her off but she just pushed at the air and they slammed into the wall. Tanith pushed and flipped Valkyrie over. They were grabbing at each other's hair, screaming curses at each other and snarling at each other. Tanith managed to stand up and flip Valkyrie over her hip, hurling her into the glass dining table. The table smashed on contact, Valkyrie falling among the shards, blood pouring from her hands as the glass buried in her hands. She hissed in pain as she flung herself at Tanith again, only to be stopped by Skulduggery holding her back. She whipped her head around and snarled at him. Ghastly was holding back Tanith.

"Let me go!" she hissed at Skulduggery.

"No," was Skulduggery's reply.

"Well, never thought that would happen," Ghastly announced, holding back a thrashing Tanith.

"Well, looks like we'll be going now Ghastly," Skulduggery dragging Valkyrie out of the house.

"Uh yeah, seeya mate," Ghastly called back as they quickly retreated out of the house.

Skulduggery placed a now calm, quiet Valkyrie in the front seat of the car and hopped in the drivers side. They drove in silence until they reached the pier just pass her house.

"Val," he started, but Valkyrie ignored him and stared straight ahead at the swirling sea in front of them. Another storm was definitley brewing.

"Val..." he tried again, "I-I love you."

Valkyrie whipped her head around and stared at him with a shocked expression as his words finally gathered in her head.

"Skul," she breathed.

"No, don't say anything, I'll just go..." he responded starting to get out of the car, but was stopped by a hand on his arm.

"Would you just shut up for a second?" she asked, pulling him around so there was only a few centimetres between them.

"I love you too."
