Chapter Eight

A S T R I D

The water was freezing and pitch black. Toothless plunged in the water and grabbed Dragon Boy in his paws and flew out of the water. I swam to the surface and saw the torches through the gaps in the trees. Toothless had brought Dragon Boy to the cave and was nudging him.
I ran over to him and took out a blanket from the bag I had left him. I'm dabbed his wing dry and took out a needle and thread made from sheep's wool.

I sewed the wing back together. The hole wasn't that big because it was only an arrow that shot through the membrane.

When I was done, the Vikings were rushing into the cove. Toothless and I hid Dragon Boy behind us and we were hiding in the cave, staying in the darkness, watching the Vikings search for Dragon Boy.

"KEEP SEARCHING" Stoik yelled.

"His dragon probably flew him away by now Stoik, why are we searching?" Someone asked.

"Because we have to find him, no matter how long it takes, because whoever helped him escape..will be banished."

My whole body froze. If they found me I would be banished from Berk. Where would I live? What would I do?

H I C C U P

I finally woke up. I shivered and I was alarmed when a hand covered my mouth.
Astrid.

"Shh, the Vikings are looking for us..I'll tell you what happened later"

We stood there for what felt like an hour, the Vikings eventually gave up around dawn.

"DRAGON BOY!" Astrid yelled, "I'm so happy your okay!" She had a huge smile on her face.

"Me too" I laughed, it hurt too do so.
A shiver went through my whole body, it was then I noticed that I was only wearing my leather pants.

"What happened?" I asked.

"You got hurt fighting the big dragon, you were brought to Gothi, the Village healer, you were there for a week or so, tonight, I overheard Stoik in the great Hall talking about killing you because of reasons. So I ran to Gothi's, carried you here and you then fell into the pond after falling off Toothless, he saved you and then the Vikings came looking for you, now were here" she said.

"Why am I only in my pants?" Was all I could say.

It was then I noticed the bandages the practically covered my whole back and stomach.

"Oh" I said.

"Dragon Boy--" I cut her off.

"Call me Hiccup, I know I can trust you now" I said.

"Okay.."she said, "Hiccup, If they find out that I helped you escape, I will get banished from Berk, what should I do?"

"You could always come back with me..If you wanted.." I offered.

"No, I couldn't do that"

"Okay, because I have to go..now" I said.

"Is that for real?" She asked, astonished.

"Yeah..I mean, if I'm going to get you banished, than I might as well go back home, Toothless can fly me back anyways"

"Hiccup..please don't go" she said.

"I have to.." I felt horrible, but I couldn't get her banished, "I'll come back...maybe" I choked out the words.

"Oh-Okay" she said, a look of sadness in her eyes.

I all of a sudden knew I was going to miss her, I know I could say that I liked her...but if I said I Loved her, it wouldn't be right. A normal Viking, in love with a Dragon Freak, yeah, no.

I hoped onto Toothless, who was gladly waiting for me to hop on, knowing I couldn't use my wings.
I saw the look in Astrid's eyes again, got off Toothless, and walked up to her, giving her a slight hug.
She was like a delicate little leaf, that if someone hurt her, she would shrivel and fall, but inside, she was like a rock, nothing could hurt her at all.
She fiddled with where to put her hands, my wings in the way. She finally found where, and set her head on my shoulder.
We picked up our heads and looked into each other's eyes, foreheads touching.

"Hiccup, you don't have to go" she said.

"But I do, I'll miss you Astrid, thanks for helping with everything, I'll come back as a repayment"

When I finally started to pull away, after Toothless had been eagerly waiting, she pulled me in and kissed me.
For a second, the world felt still, quiet, and peaceful. All my thoughts drifted away, but it only lasted a second, and they all flooded back to me in a matter of time.

With that I hopped on Toothless, flying off into the dawn sky without a word, leaving Astrid in the cove, speachless and alone.
