Zoe's Pov:

"Joe"

I shook his sloppy body that laid so still under the covers, his head popping out for air. And then, I remembered.

My little brother couldn't hear me anymore. There was no point in using my voice to communicate with him. I shivered in my place, sitting beside his sleeping body that was snoring inches away from mine.

Joe, you can't here me anymore.

I sighed, biting back every tear that threatened to fall down. I had to be strong for him. I couldn't make this situation more miserable than it already is. I stared at him, as he shifted his body towards me. I sat there still.

Joe sent me a message yesterday in the middle of my rehearsals, asking me to come over. I kept re-reading it over and over again as my tears fell down my eyes like a waterfall. I've always known that this day might come, a day where my brilliant musically talented brother would go deaf. Dr. Daniel warned us about it happening around the time of the surgery, because the pills will soon lose their complete effect on Joe.

I couldn't stop crying while I asked the people at the rehearsal to stop what we were doing. I was not up for anything as I ran outside to my car in a rush while my boyfriend followed behind. Alfie drove me here actually, he knew better than to let me take the steering wheel while I was at this state.

As soon as I was in Joe's apartment, I found my brother's body slumped on the piano with so many bears scattered around him. I woke him up with violent shakes, and took him to the bathroom to get changed. He was a wreck and reeked of alcholole, as he started to slur

"Marcusssss ruined everything."

"I loved Casparrrr, I looooooved him so much sis."

"I can't fucking hearrrr hahahaha...myyyy life is overrrrr."

I just nodded along, and murmured some reassuring words as we walked into his room. I helped him get into bed, and Joe finally fell asleep mumbling Caspar's name over and over. I went ahead and slept on the couch. From the looks of it, my brother had successfully managed to end up with a broken heart. Marcus had something to do with it apparently, and Caspar was nowhere to be found.

Sigh.

What have you done to your life, Joe?

I looked at him, snapping out of my thoughts as he groaned in his sleep. I shook my head, and shoved his arm harder. He winced, and started opening his eyelids lazily.

"Morning," I mouthed slowly as I tried to form a smile on my slightly quivering lips.

Joe looked at me in confusion for a few more seconds, before nodding. He sat up, and stretched his arms widely. Joe looked so out of it. His eyes were still puffy as he cried himself to sleep yesterday. His hair was a mess, and so was his heart.

My little stupid brother.

He got off of his bed, and walked pass me as I stood up and followed behind. He entered the bathroom and shut the door behind him. I quickly made my way to the kitchen area and started preparing strong coffee for his hangover. We are not going to the train station for another half an hour and his bag and mine are already set to the side of the door to the apartment. I've placed them there shortly after waking up. There was no time for breakfast, though.

Click.

The door to the bathroom opened, and in came a changed clothed Joe. He put his glasses on, which was probably to cover up his exhaustion. He sat on one of those chairs in front of the counter, and shifted his eyes on the seat next to him for a moment, before looking ahead and covering his face with his hands.
