After school we all immediately went to the sandlot and played. It was Benny's first day back and he didn't loose it. Benny always had a connection with baseball possibly more of a connection then he had with me.
I was so curious as to why he had been acting the way he was I mean even though we're best friends we all had our secrets and I know he had his and I just wanted to know.
We were walking home together as we saw Benny's mom walk out my house.
"Hey kids" she called and we waved.
"I will be inside mom" he said to her and she nodded as he ran up the front steps. He turned and gave my a sly smile and wave before walking in. I waved back right after.
"Well goodnight Bobby" she said starting down the steps.
"Wait Mrs, Rodriguez can I ask you something?" I stopped her and she smiled and sat on the steps.
"Of course" she smiled warmly.
"My mom, you know how she acts right?" I stuttered.
"Yeah I do she can be a real ignorant bi- word I can't say, I know" she said.
"Then why do you still come back" I asked.
"You know Bobby sometimes someone always has that one person no matter who they are or how they act, I'm always going to be there for your mom because I'm only one that will be here for her, you are the only one that will be there for Benny and the list goes on for all the other people in the world. No matter how horrible your mom can get she always knows she will have me to fall back on and the same goes for you and Benny" she said pulling me in towards her. She was more motherly to me then my own mother.
"Thank you Mrs, Rodriguez but this isn't about me and Benny" I stated and she laughed.
"But isn't it" she giggled and I rolled my eyes.
"Hey I know a quote Benny is quite fond of, sometimes you have to capture the good times before you loose them, so while your living in the now be spontaneous and don't tell me you are spontaneous because everyone has fear holding them back, break down your walls and she who comes in and who doesn't" she said.
"Have a good night sweetheart" she smiled kissing my forehead and walking back to her house. I got up and walked into the house.
"Nice to see your home for once" my mom snarled.
"Nice to see you not drunk for once" I shot back then Mrs Rodriguez words went through my brain like a wild fire.
"have a good night mom" I said and with that I walked to my room.
