Genna's POV:
"Just walk right in and sit down honey, you'll love him." Mary said, nudging me. I was currently standing outside the door, peering my head in. I wasn't ready to be talked down to, nor looked at like a lost bunny rabbit. Nor blamed for my problems either.
"Miss Genna?" I heard his voice from inside and I gulped, walking in. Mary shut the door quietly behind me. The man sitting behind the desk could've been Morgan Freeman's twin, I swear to God. His voice even sounded similar. But with glasses.
"Before you ask, no I'm not Morgan Freeman, I just happen to look strikingly similar to him. Have a seat, miss Genna." He said. He already scored two points from me. One for looking a lot like one of my favorite actors, and two for actually calling me by my preferred name. I sat down on a plush navy blue couch, and I immediately sank down, relaxing. Damn, this was comfy.
He smiled at me kindly, and held up the signal for 'wait one minute' before typing in some stuff into his computer. Then he got up from behind the desk, and took a seat in the small armchair facing me.
"Coffee? Tea?" He asked. I shook my head and he nodded, pouring a drink for himself, which I noticed was sitting on the table in front of us. Along with another saucer and cup, with a plate of cookies. Was he expecting the Queen of England or something?
"Well when you change your mind, you may take whatever you like. I expect my guests to feel comfortable." He said. I nodded, smiling a little.
Then, weirdest of all, he just began asking me questions about what was going on in my life so far. As if making casual conversation. He started out by asking normal questions like how my classes were going, then seeing by the progress he was making, he started asking more personal questions, like when the last time I cut was.
Without meaning to, I also told him about Parker and actually talked about how I was starting to develop feelings for him. This was what therapists were for, right? To ask questions and get answers and to help you with your personal life.
"So...what should I do Dr. Bowman?" I asked, when we had finished talking. It was near the end of the session, but we still had time to kill. After looking through a few notes, he told me we had way too much to cover in just one session but we were making amazing progress.
"Well, what do you think you should do? It's not my job to make your decisions for you." He said, peering at me through his glasses.
"I.....don't know." I said. He sat up and leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees.
"Well, it sounds like to me Genna, that you have harmed before because of your pent up emotions inside. About how you're angry all the time, how you're confused and conflicted by your mother, how you're still hurt from rehab. Now, if you were to keep your secret from Parker about your feelings, those will build up inside as well, and we don't need that." He said.
I sat quiet for a minute, pondering over what he said.
"So....you're saying I should tell Parker?" I asked.
"No, I'm saying you should do what's best for you. That doesn't necessarily mean do what's easiest, or what's right, but what's best." He said. I nodded as his little timer went off, signifying the end of the session.
I got up as did he, and he shook my hand, clasping it tight with the other.
"This is all confidential right?" I asked, just to make sure. He gave me a kind smile, and even laughed.
"Of course! And Genna, I'm glad you decided to open up like this on your first session. I can tell that soon you won't even need me." He said, opening the door for me.
I thanked him and walked out to the lobby. I knew what I had to do. I had to tell Parker my feelings for him.
