Evolution of Expectations

I needed someone.

Someone to make my heart pound

And to push their love through my viens

To erase my past pains

And tell me for once "I'm here to stay".

It was cold that night.

When you took her to dance

But she left you stranded, alone, 

Those words "I'm not sure, I don't know"

Echos in your mind and rattles your soul.

I couldn't see you like this.

Hurt clearly written on your face

So I walked up to you

Smiling, hoping you would smile too

Telling without words "love is real. it's true". 

You are still hurt

When I took your hand, I expected warmth

But you were deathly cold

And my heart beat faster without being told

And it seems, since then, my heart was sold.

You tried to leave.

Almost without saying goodbye

But I wouldn't let you slip away

So I followed you out, I'm not going away
