explaining this story:
It's from Death's POV. How death started "shadowing" Jonathan is for your own interpretation. Maybe his sibling died, maybe his true father died. It could be he is death reincarnated. Or maybe he was just a beacon of death.
Jonathan's death:
Again it's up for readers interpretation. He died protecting Audrey, but it's unclear who killed him.
The story: maybe it didn't even happen and it was all just death's memories of a time before he was death. Or maybe it did happen actually happen. I'll leave it up to you to decide.
Yes, I am aware that there are no capitals (except for names and "I".) I'll leave that for your own interpretation.
As the story goes on death stops calling Jonathan "the boy". I think it's because he feels a stronger connection to him.
