Alright, so lately I've been having a lot of trouble with Ace. Him loping off, bucking, pushing me into a wall. Yeah, it hasn't been great.
For some reason, I got on him today and he was a little angel. I mean, he was fabulous.
So, I figure, if he's not going to be an "Acehole" (his new nick-name), I might as well try something new.
I set up a small jump for him. He's walked over these a million times and has no problem with them. But never has he trotted over.
I trotted up to the jump, and he seemed like he was going to jump it, but one step ahead of it, he stopped and walked over.
We tried again, faster each time, and the next two times he still walked over.
'Lets try this one more time,' I thought.
I pushed him on with my heels, and made the usual 'clicking' sound.
Three steps away, two steps, one.....
This time, he actually jumped it! I was honestly amazed. Neither him or me had ever jumped before.
After that, we continued practicing, and he jumped every time. He totally nailed it.
Needless to say, I'm very proud of my little "Acehole".
Sometimes, not giving up really is the key. It may not feel like it at times, but it does pay off.
