Post-Halloween Epiphany

This is based off of Scott's tweet on November 1. He mentioned something about thinking of an awesome Halloween costume the day after Halloween. Since I'm still hearing stories from my friends about the holiday (apparently a lot of stuff went down, but I was happily gallivanting around Howl-O-Scream), I decided to write this. I hope you all enjoy!

Love you all, my darlings!

Scott groaned as Mitch pushed him harshly out of the door of their shared apartment. He pulled the sunglasses he had managed to grab over his eyes and adjusted the sleeves of his shirt. "Why do we have to do this again?" he asked as he slowly began his trek to the car.

"Because I need something fabulous to wear on Halloween, especially if we're going to be doing a spreecast later on that day. I've procrastinated by waiting this long. There'll probably be nothing of any worth, now. All that will be left are fairies and vampires, and Mama is not going to be any paler than she already is."

Scott continued mumbling, even after he had slid into the driver's seat. Mitch climbed in beside him, rolling his eyes at his boyfriend's sour mood. It wasn't his fault that the night before Scott had went from drinking champagne to the whiskey Esther had dropped off earlier that day. Avi had already called and warned the two lightweights about it. When Mitch noticed Scott tripping over his own feet, the brunette had tried to maneuver the drink from the blonde's hand. Scott had simply turned away and started talking to his ex-boyfriend, Alex. Mitch wasn't too happy about that, but he kept his complaints to himself. Scott had been intoxicated, after all, and if he had a headache and wasn't feeling well, it was not Mitch's doing. He sure as hell wasn't going to take responsibility for it.

Mitch started messing with his hair as Scott pulled onto the highway. Luckily, it wasn't too terribly busy. It was a Thursday, after all, and most of the population was working. The sun was the real foe here. It was shining brightly behind the car, casting its rays through the car and straight to the rear-view mirror, where it reflected right into Scott's face. He groaned once again and used his free hand to rub his temple. "You just had to choose two o'clock to go shopping, didn't you?"

Mitch shrugged and checked his phone, instantly going on his Twitter page. "I wanted to go earlier, but you just got up. I had to grasp the chance when it became available." He messed around on his phone a little more before a thought passed through his mind. "Do you want to do a Periscope?"

Scott took his eyes off of the road momentarily and stared incredulously at the man sitting beside him. "Seriously, Mitchie? I'm hungover as hell, and you want me to go on live with our fans?"

Mitch bit back a smart retort. "It was just a thought," he mumbled. He returned his gaze to his phone. Obviously, Scott wasn't going to be a very cooperative person today.

The rest of the car ride was silent. When they reached the Halloween costume store, Mitch jumped out quickly. The tension in the car could have been cut with a knife, and Mitch had felt like he was being suffocated with it. He wanted to have a fun time with his boyfriend of five months, but with Scott's current state, any possible rays of happiness were bound to be stamped out by Scott's storm clouds. But, the shorter man didn't say anything. He took his place beside Scott silently, and together, the two stepped into the store.

Scott sighed in relief as he discovered that the lighting in the store was dimmer than the natural light outside. He didn't dare take off his sunglasses in fear that someone would see his bloodshot eyes. If someone asked, he would simply say his eyes had been dilated earlier that day or some shit. They didn't have a reason to question his explanation.

Mitch separated from Scott when he spotted a cute headband that had a black hat and veil attached to it. There were gems glued along the edges - that was what had initially caught his attention. He grabbed it, slipped it on, and paraded to the full-length mirror that stood nearby. Mitch tilted his head and pouted his lips a bit, trying to determine if he liked the hat or not. After a few minutes, Mitch looked around the store to see if he could spot Scott. He located the man by the superhero costumes. "Scott!"

"Yeah, baby?" Scott asked as he glanced up from his browsing.

"Do you think this is cute?" Mitch asked.

Scott gazed at him for a few seconds and smiled. "Yes, Mitchie, it's cute. But what are you going to wear with it? Do you want to base multiple outfits around one accessory or base multiple accessories around one outfit?"

Mitch nodded. His boyfriend was right, and he sounded pretty damn wise when he said it, too. His focus returned to his reflection in the mirror.

The two spent hours in a similar pattern. Scott would be browsing and, every once in a while, trying on an outfit. Mitch would bring three or four to the back at one time, try them on, reject each of them, and then go back to wistfully gazing at all of the cute jewelry and neat makeup options. At one point, Scott had playfully handcuffed Mitch with fluffy, pink handcuffs. Mitch, who was glad that his partner was in a better mood, had jokingly made a reference to Mr. Grey, which instantly sent Scott's mind into the gutter and initiated a steamy make-out session behind some curtains.

Overall, they left the store with nothing but what they walked in with. Which was completely fine by Scott. He didn't mind going somewhere and not buying anything. Mitch, on the other hand...

"Argh! I can't believe I didn't find anything!" he whined when they stepped back into the apartment.

Scott pulled an upset Mitch into his side. "What's wrong, baby?"

"I need a Halloween costume! Kirstie always dresses up so pretty, and I want to be pretty for Halloween!"

Scott leaned down and captured Mitch's lips with his own. "You are always beautiful, honey."

Mitch blushed lightly. "You have to say that because you're my boyfriend."

Scott shook his head. "I would say that either way. You are a beautiful person, on the inside and on the outside." Scott knew there had to be more to Mitch's disappointment and frustration than his prior excuse. "Now, tell me why you really wanted a costume."

Mitch sighed and buried his face in Scott's chest. Wyatt purred around their feet, and Mitch bent down to pick the cat up, holding his against his chest firmly. Wyatt meowed in satisfaction. "I wanted to impress you."

Scott's eyebrows furrowed. "You don't need to impress me, baby."

"I know, but I want to. I want you to be proud of me."

Scott kissed Mitch's forehead. "I'm proud of you just for being you, Mitchie. I love you."

Mitch smiled and kissed Scott. "I love you, too."

Scott smiled. "Good. Now, let's eat! I'm starved! My brain is overworked from trying to think of a good costume and coming up blank."

Mitch giggled and nodded.

The two ate dinner, tuned into Spongebob, and fell asleep in no time with Wyatt prowling around the house, doing whatever a cat does.

A few days passed. Halloween came and went, the spreecast for their fans with it. Genevieve had been nice enough to paint their faces, and though they had teased Avi about it, they hadn't actually planned to do anything that day. Genevieve had offered to do their makeup, and the two hadn't said no.

The morning after Halloween, the dawn of November 1, Scott bolted up from his sleep. Mitch, who had been spread out across him, was startled and bolted up as well. "Scott?" he murmured in alarm.

"I've got it! I've got the perfect idea for a costume!" He ran his hands through his hair, pulling on it as he paced the living room.

"What?" Mitch asked. His brain was still booting up, and Scott's words weren't being processed.

"I should have been Scottline Bling! Oh my God! It's so obvious! I feel like such a dumb ass!"

Mitch moaned and curled into a ball. "Go back to sleep, Scott. There's nothing you can do about it now. You can't turn back time. Plus, can you imagine trying to explain that to the others?"

Scott groaned and fell back onto the bed. He knew Mitch was right, but that didn't stop him from beating himself up about it. Still slightly fuming, he took to Twitter: Of course I have the idea to be Scottline Bling for Halloween on November 1.
