"Why are we doing this again?"
"Uh, because it will be fun."
"How can it be fun if I'm scared to death the whole time?"
Scott glanced over at Mitch. "Are you saying you're afraid of rocks?"
Mitch huffed. "No, of course not. I'm afraid of sweating."
Scott laughed at Mitch's ridiculousness. "Okay, babe. Whatever you say. C'mon, we need to go ahead and start down the trial if we want to finish before dark."
Mitch groaned but followed his boyfriend. "I can't believe you talked me into this. I mean, hiking? This was your idea of a good date?"
Scott shrugged. "I thought the view would be nice. Plus, Tyler's been posting all of these hiking selfies lately. They were my inspiration, so if anything, blame Tyler."
The two walked together at a semi-brisk pace, music playing from Mitch's phone. It was the only other noise besides that coming from the wildlife around them.
Mitch gazed at the scenery. "Well, I have to admit it's pretty. I still don't like it, though."
"Are you really that against it?" Scott asked, concerned. He did want this date to be fun. If Mitch wasn't enjoying himself, he'd think of something else.
"No, it's fine," Mitch insisted. "I'm just being a whiny bitch because I haven't had a second cup of coffee yet."
Scott hummed in acknowledgement and reached over to take Mitch's hand. "Well, I'll buy you coffee as soon as we see the sunset."
Mitch gasped theatrically. "Isn't that in, like, forty-five minutes though? We're going to walk that long?"
Scott nudged Mitch, to which Mitch replied with his own. Soon, the two were chasing after each other, playfully shoving and tickling one another. They were so consumed with their games that they didn't mind the passing of time, and when they finally reached their destination, the sun was in the process of sinking below the horizon.
"See? This isn't so bad, is it?"
"I can basically hear you say, 'I told you so'."
"Of course I am. I'm awesome at planning dates. I'm ashamed you even thought otherwise."
Mitch stood up on his tiptoes to kiss his boyfriend. "Shut up and be overly romantic with me."
Scott, who wrapped his arms around the man who held his heart, had no problem with doing just that.
