It had been Scott's idea to take a road trip for their third aniversary. They had managed to get some time off from recording and press, and although Mitch wanted to do nothing more than relax and sip champagne, he simply didn't have the heart to deny his husband some fun. They quickly packed and sped off in the car not 24 hours after Scott announced his plan.

Thankfully, the weather was pleasant. It was a bit on the cool side, seeing as they were deep in October. The leaves were falling off of the trees, and many of the lawns had more brown grass than green. Scott had rolled the windows down, allowing the crisp air to flow throughout the car, helping to keep him awake along with the Starbucks that was half-empty. Mitch had the Lemonade album playing loudly, and the two sang along, perfectly on key. The two were enjoying life, leaving all of their cares behind them.

Scott had packed a map, just in case. He made a grab for it during a stop for gas, but Mitch snatched it away before the blonde's fingers could touch the crisp paper. "Mitch?"

The brunette waved a finger at his husband. "You wanted this road trip to be spontaneous, right? What says spontaneous more than following whatever path we want?"

"What if we get hopelessly lost? I really don't want to end up being the true story behind a horror movie. Who would take care of Wyatt?"

"Lover, get in the car and drive. We will be fine. The sun is rising, so that means if we follow it, we're heading east."

"You want to visit the east coast?"

Mitch shrugged. "I've lived a large part of my life either in the south or on the west coast. Sure, let's go east."

Scott sighed but nodded. The car started, and he pulled away from the station and back onto the interstate.

A couple of hours later, Mitch was complaining about being hungry. They stopped at a fast food restaurant. However, Scott was turned around about where they had come from. The sun was in the middle of the sky, so they were unable to tell exactly which direction was which. "Any suggestions?"

Mitch pursed his lips. "We can go either left or right. I'm pretty sure right is the way to go."

"What if it takes us back to California?"

Mitch shrugged. "We'll turn around. We have a whole month to do this, Scott. It's not like we will run out of time."

"Okay," Scott relented, thinking for a minute. "But, you know, they say that when nothing goes right, go left."

"Right, Scott."

"Whatever you want, baby."
