"How did it go honey?" Mom asks, referring to the delivery.

"Better than I thought, Delilah asked me to go back."

I heave myself back up, feeling my wolf wanting out all of a sudden; I hadn't shifted in almost three weeks.

"I'm gonna let my wolf out for a run." I announce.

"I'll come with you." Mom stands suddenly and I watch as dad gives her a warning look.

My brows furrow at their silent exchange and I wonder what they must be hiding from me.

"Why? I always go for lone runs." I ask blandly, trying my best to hide my curiosity.

"Just go with your mother, Cass." Dad murmurs.

I raise my brows in silent compliance and head to the front door.

"It's been a while since we've had a chat, don't you think?" Mom squints at me as we walk through the quiet forest.

I hum in agreement as I run my hand past the dry, hard trunks of the thousand year old trees; they have probably witnessed more in this forest than a member of the Ancient Council.

I found a pleasant peacefulness with trees, their exterior simple from afar but a whole new world within its interior; bird's nests, insects, life.

The last time my mother and I had a walk in the forest, she was telling me that I would never have a mate because of my role as an Omega; it broke my heart but I quickly got over it... I think.

"Mom, what's going on?"

She pauses and I do the same, waiting for her response as her face goes through a cluster of emotions. Her blue eyes creasing in the corners as she bunches her hands in fists, a sign of nervousness or worry.

"What are you talking about, honey?" Mom gives me a weak smile.

"We both know that you and Dad are bad liars and you're awful at hiding things from me." I fold my arms.

She lets out a nervous laugh and blows her hair back as she reaches for my hands, her bright loving eyes contrasting greatly against the darkening sky.

"I'm worried about our family and our pack. A very dangerous pack is raiding through packs and attacking them." Mom squeezes my hands.

"Do we have to move again like last time?" I ask.

I hated having to move from the pack that I was born into, I was so young I couldn't even remember the name of the pack that we were originally from.

"We're hoping it doesn't come to that." Mom shakes her head and smiles at me reassuringly.

"Are they looking for something?"

I watch as unfiltered fear runs through my mother like an earthquake, her frame jolting violently for a quick second before I pull her close to me.

I hated seeing her like this, it made me as well as my wolf protective of our mother.

"Don't worry about them, Momma. Alpha Anderson will protect his pack and I'll protect you and dad." I whisper, squeezing her tight as she wraps her arms around me.

I didn't even know how to fight but I would do whatever I could to keep my family safe, at a young age I remember their constant fear of being found but I never knew who by; I didn't want the same thing to replay out.

"You sound just like your father." She muses.

"That's because I'm his daughter." I smirk,

"Come on, I'll race you." Mom leans back and starts to jog away from me.
