"The moment we have long been waiting for has finally arrived." Dmitri addresses his pack members.

Shifting their penetrating stare from me to straightening their backs and submissively exposing their necks briefly to their Alpha before turning their attention to him, I watch as hundreds fall silent as they wait for their Alpha to continue.

There must be at least five hundred of them stood before us.

"Our pack is finally whole, well almost. Our Luna must finalise her position." He carries on.

Finalise? What does that mean?

I try to catch Dmitri's gaze in order to ask him what was going on but he steps forward, away from me and I'm left vulnerable to the pack's penetrative stares.

"Lisa, step forward." The Mad Alpha calls.

I freeze up when it slowly starts to sink in and take a step backwards only to bump into something hard. When I turn around, a tall and mean looking gut with a scar running from his ear lobe down his neck stares down at me with a frown on his face.

I turn back around and step towards Dmitri, realising that I was trapped. The challenger steps forward, a girl probably a few years older than me, with hands behind her back and chest pushed up proudly. Her dark hair scrapped back in a pony tail making all her slightly pale features look menacing. She exposes her neck to her Alpha before speaking.

"Alpha Maddox, I challenge your mate in the position of Luna." She speaks confidently, making me insides twist in unease.

"You're not really going to let this happen." I panic.

Dmitri turns to face me with a small frown on his face and a perplexed look as if I asked him why we breathe.

"Of course; Lisa is a very well spoken she-wolf respected by all in this pack. She has the position to challenge yours."

Did that mean he didn't want me?

My wolf whines softly, feeling rejection crumble us both down to a tiny speck. This pack probably didn't even want me here.

"I can't fight your people." I whisper.

Just looking at them felt dangerous and frightening, I didn't necessarily want to fight one of them.

"Don't doubt yourself, angel." Dmitri strokes my cheek and a wide berth is given for me before I could even lean into his hand.

I'm ushered forward as the large crowd split to form a large circled space in the middle.

~This is who we are meant to be, a Luna~

Lisa throws me a grimace of a smile as we slowly circle each other. By accepting this challenge, I was acknowledging my position as Luna and basically fighting to be one; there is no way I'm ready to be a Luna, despite my wolf's conviction I was brought up to be the total opposite.

"You and I both know it's best for a member of Blood Moon to be Luna, no outsiders." She smiles at me coldly.

My wolf howls at the insult and I instantly shift which Lisa follows through by doing the same. The thought of another female having their claws all over my mate made both my wolf and I sick to the stomach, a primal instinct that was become hard to control. Being possessive towards someone feared and hated was hard to contain and felt like a betrayal to everything I stood; why had I been paired with this man?

Lisa bares her canines on a low growl before lunging forwards; before her body could collide with my wolf's, I consciously linger back as I let my wolf completely take over and she leaps out of the way, causing Lisa to crash into a few pack members. Some sniggers resonate as they shove her back into the ring and her anger flares, the green in her eyes lighting up dangerously. Knowing my wolf wanted to stake her claim, she let's Lisa lunge for her again and instead of jumping out of the way, she sprints forward, head low as my wolf rams into her like an unstoppable freight train. In Lisa's stunned state, my wolf takes the chance to swipe her claws against Lisa's underbelly only Lisa recovers quickly and catches my wolf's paw with her teeth. My wolf snaps her jaws to hide the pain caused and wrenches her paw away, limping slightly as she backs away.
