I watch as the rogues increase in number and advance towards my mate, my heart rate skyrocketing as they bare their sharp teeth and crouch low.

He couldn't fight them alone, I had to help him.

I grab the door handle but a warning growl stops me from doing anything else. Turning, I notice Dmitri's canines were now elongated and his black eyes narrowed on me.

"Don't." He snarls, his voice laced thick with anger and menace.

Blinking rapidly, I sit back in the car seat as my wolf begs me to shift but suddenly the scene changes before me and countless rogues leap towards Dmitri; he responds by shifting into his wolf form and relentlessly shredding into them with the utmost force of an Alpha.

The rogues continue to pile on, streaming in and attempting to take a swipe at my mate though many fall to their death before even getting a claw in Dmitri's direction.

He was almost a blur before taking a chunk out of a Weres neck, leaving the rogue to bleed out on the hard concrete ground.

Taking a deep breath, I leap out of the car when I notice how my mate was slowly being backed up into a corner as he fought off as many as he could and run up at them on a feral growl. A flash of dark clothing breezes by my peripheral vision and I turn to take a swing at whoever it was, only my wrist is caught and I'm pulled towards the tall figure.

I look up as I struggle against the vice like grip and notice the menacing smile on the man's pale, hard face.

"Who are you?" I snarl as I feel my heart stutter in slight fear.

Come on Cass, remember all that Micah taught you.

"It's very nice to meet you, Cassandra, I'm Nicholas."

I freeze and let him think that I was paralysed by fear, then I jerk my head forward and slam my forehead against above the bridge of his nose, effectively headbutting him.

Nicholas stumbles back, letting go of my hand as he clutches his nose and I take the opportunity to run but something slams into my back and I hit the ground.

A thundering howl echoes through me and I scramble up to see Dmitri growling at Nicholas, his hackles raised as he takes a leap towards us but a rogue takes Dmitri's distraction as an opportunity to sink his teeth into my mate.

I let out a scream and Nicholas chuckles as Dmitri stiffens, his lips pulled back showing all his gleaming teeth as his eyes go from a stormy grey to a crimson red.

No...it isn't the full moon yet; he can't be shifting into his other wolf form.

"There he is." I hear Nicholas whisper.

When I turn, I notice the small smile on his face before I'm grabbed by the back of my neck and suddenly launched against the nearest tree. My body crashed against it as the tree splinters and I continue to go flying, crashing through anything in my path before landing on the dirty ground, feeling like a thousand wooden splinters were embedded in my skin.

In the distance, I hear a low growl and struggle to my feet, my hand reaching up to the wet feeling that was starting to trickle down the back of my head onto my neck. I steady myself, when everything goes blurry before sprinting back to the site where Nicholas and Dmitri now were; the rest of the rogues were now dead by my mate's hand.

"It's time to pay for what you did, Dmitri." Nicholas announces.

"He's much stronger than you in this form!" I yell, my blood boiling at the thought of this man trying to hurt my mate.

The urge to rip his face off was rippling through me, yet the dead look in my mates eyes were holding me back, as if the monster wolf part of him knew that Nicholas needed to die a more painful death than those rogues.

"I wouldn't be so sure of that." Nicholas turns to face me, his canines extracting before leaping towards me.

I bend low on a crouch but Dmitri is too quick, he jumps and takes Nicholas down, landing on him on a snarl but something catches my eye.

The low growl behind me makes my blood run cold and my breathing to stop.

I turn until I'm facing the creature who looked very similar to Dmitri's current form, saliva dripping from its muzzle and the same crimson red eyes gleaming straight at me.

This was a vampire bitten werewolf...just like Dmitri.

Slowly, I take steps back as I draw it away from Dmitri who was mercilessly ripping into Nicholas as if he was a rag doll, but it was distraction enough to keep him away from me so that this other monster could kill me.

His plan all along.

I take off running as far and fast as possible, drawing the monster away from my mate as I feel it hot on my tail; I felt like I was reliving a nightmare.

Sweat runs down my back in rivulets as I put all strength in my legs to push harder and run faster until I hear nothing but the rustling of trees and forest creatures. Crouching, I roll myself on the ground, letting the musky smell cover my clothes before scrambling up the nearest tree and hoping that this would confuse the monster long enough for me to attack it by surprise.

Heavy panting and low snarls start to near and my heart begins to race but I scrunch my eyes closed and will my heart to slow and my breathing to calm.

As I open my eyes and look down, the monster is directly below me sniffing me out and I take his distracted moment to leap down and mid-shift, embedding my claws and canines into its fur and dragging them across his back.

The monster howls and slams his back against the tree, crushing me against it. I cry out as I hear a few bones crack and fall to the ground as soon as I let go.

Suddenly, a burning feeling sears through my thigh and I attempt to struggle away from it but the pain intensifies. I look down to see the monster's jaw locked around my leg, his blood red eyes unblinkingly staring right at me.

"Dmitri!" I scream before everything goes black..
