As the other campers left one of the campers came up to me. I didn't recognize her, but she walked up to me.
"I wanted to apologize before you left. We at the lake didn't mean to be so harsh, it's just-" this conversation was annoyingly similar to the one Hazel had given me.
"You didn't want to be surrounded by the stench of death."
"No, no its-"
"But it is." I cut her off "I don't want your apologies."
"But you do," she sounded different when she said those words
"No I don't."
"Yes you DO." She said the last word with such force that I almost wanted to believe her; that some part of me wanted to be pitied. That part of me died when Garret had rejected me. I had realized that you can't wish to be pitied if you want to live.
"NO I DON'T!" I retorted.
"Huh?" she looked confused. "No-one has ever withstood that much charm speak."
"Charm speak, huh? You campers are weird." I laughed
"Yes, yes we are." She laughed and left. Now that everyone had left the amphitheater, I started to walk towards my hut trying to think about this quest.
"Son of Death beware the cold,
A scythe to reap the souls of old,
Travel north to find the blade,
Or none shall fall and death will fade,
Return the snow to her prison
And come home to ultimately fail your mission"
The oracles words bounced around in my head. I tried to forget the painting of me holding a scythe. But it kept surfacing, when I got to my hut I drew the curtain I had draped over the door and stepped inside. An apparition stood before me.
"Hello, my lord."
"I'm his son if death's who you're referring to." I stared at him he was wearing a black toga fringed with silver. He had a broken nose and a goatee both splattered with gold dust.
"Yes, son of my lord." He bowed "I have come, to bid you a warning."
"What is it?" I asked "and why are you glittery?"
"The warning is thus: Do not travel north, the scythe is safe. The oracle, like the campers here, is just trying to get rid of you. And I'm glittery because I just killed a monster. Good Day." And he burst into black flames and disappeared.
Well that wasn't weird at all. I thought to myself as I started packing my stuff. I heard the curtain being drawn back and I turned around, my pocket knife closed in my hand.
"Oh, hi Seth. I wanted to talk to you before you left..."
"Hi Rachel," I smiled "what did you want to say?"
"I-"she looked down. "I'm not supposed to fall in love, I'm forbidden by Apollo..."
"Oh." I sopped smiling. REALLY? The ONE girl I like and she is forbidden from loving ARE YOU TRYING TO RUIN MY LIFE! I was thinking some rather unpleasant things to about a specific god *Cough Apollo cough Cough*
"But..." she looked up at me tears in her eyes
"Is something wrong?" I asked, though i thought: you know exactly what is wrong!
"Yes... and no!" she started crying and I hugged her though that seemed to be only making it worse. She kept on crying for a moment then turned into weird-oracle-possessed-Rachel
"Beware the cold, for it tricks you.
It wishes you never find the blade,
And fail to come to your father's aide."
I shrugged off the prophecy as Rachel fell asleep. When she was sleeping peacefully I carried her to her hut and laid her on her bed.
Stupid quest, stupid Apollo, stupid 'Cold' whatever it is. I continued to pack with a heavy heart. When the sun rose I grabbed my knife and went to find Nico and Hazel. They were ready too, and Nico decided it would be better for the quest if I slammed myself into a tree multiple times.
"You just have to imagine it like a door-way!"
"You Greeks and your stupid shadow travel!" I muttered and looked at the tree willing it to look like an open door. I ran towards it again but this time I fell through the tree. Screaming.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" when I stopped flying past infinite darkness and reappeared in the middle of the forest I gasped and fell on my face. After pulling myself up I imagined a door opening back to where Nico and hazel were standing, then I ran at that tree too. I ended up right next to them screaming like a mad-man.
