She unwrapped the plastic on the last piece of furniture, threw it away, and collapsed on the couch. Well, done with that part. She thought. Her eyes scanned the room of what was left to do in her new condo.
It was small, a one bedroom one bathroom, but was extremely cozy. There was a very small dining room that fit a small but rather tall black table and two barstool like chairs. Adjacent to that room was the living room, where she currently sat, and consisted of the couch she was on, two modern end tables, and a small entertainment center that supported a medium sized flat screen. The kitchen space could maybe fit two people, but
The well furnished cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops is what won her over. Her bedroom and bathroom were similar to rest- small and simple. A few extra touches here and there would add some character she thought. Overall she certainly loved the space, and when she walked over to the large window seat in her living room, she knew why. Her gorgeous view of Vancouver also overlooked Stanley park. Between the water, busy bustle of the streets below, and the beautiful colors of nature that surrounded her, Becca felt more at home here than she had had anywhere else in a long time.
She left the window seat long enough to grab the only box marked "home" and then returned to the gorgeous view. She would need the distraction as she went through it.
Everything else in the condo was new except for her basic necessities, clothes, technology equipment and this box. She didn't want to bring many memories from back home- the life her and Kevin had shared together. That, and she didn't want to risk losing what little of him she had left. She took a deep breath and opened the box, pulling out a few photo frames from home that she knew she wanted in the living room. Those things she could deal with later.
When the box was almost empty, she finally came upon what she really wanted. She pulled out a men's t-shirt and photo frame, hugging them both close to her. She looked down at the picture, and the man who stood next to her in it, his arms wrapped around her tightly. She smiled, and traced the lines around his face, re memorizing his captivating smile, green eyes, his strong jaw and broad shoulders.
When she couldn't bear to look at him anymore, she turned her attention to the window and the comfort it's view provided. "You would have loved it here Kev" she whispered, hugging the frame to her body. They had always talked about how they would travel, the different things they would see. She and Kevin had never talked about Vancouver, but she could see now they would have loved to walk around Stanley park, seeing the beautiful gardens and going on horse drawn tours, walking along the sea wall. They would have explored downtowns and checked out random hometown cafes that more than likely had fantastic food. At the end of the day and when the moon came out, they would have forgone the night scene all together and headed back to their hotel, to do what lovers do.
The feeling of longing and sadness returned, and she shook her head and moved away from the window. She couldn't think those things anymore. She would never travel with him, go anywhere new, or be his lover. Ever again.
So much for happily ever after her thoughts spoke bitterly.
She grabbed his shirt and changed into it, the faint smell of his cologne still lingered, even after all of this time, and it gave her a small sense of peace as she went back to the couch and grabbed her computer. Her piece on the guys' tour adventures was due tomorrow, and she had completed most of it. Ian and Matt were the easiest, mainly because she had the most time to talk with them.
As she worked on the section she had set aside for Mike, she thought about their interview after the show. Although Matt and Ian defied the typical stereotypes associated with them, Mike seemed to embrace his. He was everything fans assumed him to be. Kind, considerate, a gentleman- anytime they were in a room together he was always opening the door for her- he was the definition of a good man. Him and his wife were expecting their first child together, and the glow that reached his eyes when he spoke about it touched her heart. Mike was also the business man of the group- he was most active with the fans on the social websites, and was often the one who updated announcements and answered fans' questions. "I don't mind it, I like the interaction with the fans, and it is fun to get to see their initial reactions to any announcements we have." He had said. She added "intelligent" to his increasing list of adjectives.
