"Scaleswind sure throws the best parties, huh?" commented Laurance.

"With the best food," added Arabella, gulping down the mouth-watering brownies.

The entire banquet hall was filled with chattering people, and the aroma of different baked goods filled the room. Everyone was enjoying this party. Scaleswind was definitely a popular village, what with all these bustling people.

No wonder so many villagers left Phoenix Drop and moved here.

"So," started Arabella, "how long are you going to keep those cat ears?"

"What?" Laurance instinctively caught his own ear. "Ugh, I hate these things."

"If you don't somehow remove them by three days, they become permanent," said Arabella with a serious expression.

Laurance's eyes widened in horror, and Arabella started laughing. That very moment, Laurance understood what had just happened and rolled his eyes. "You nearly gave me a heart attack."

"What?" said Arabella, grinning. "I thought you mew I was no expurrt on Meif'wa."

"These puns are worse than Michi's tea."

"You've got to be kitten me, these are gold!"

Laurance sighed and face-planted the table in defeat.

"Cat got your tongue?" continued Arabella.

"Holy Irene!" exclaimed Laurance, but Arabella could see he was trying hard--and failing--not to smile.

"Sheesh, no need to be so catty," grumbled Arabella.

Laurance shook his head, but he cracked a grin. "Same old Arabella, I see."

"Same old Laurance."

The two of them quieted down, but they were enjoying each other's company. Even silence can be comforting if you enjoy it with someone you love. It almost felt like the good old days before the war against O'khasis and Scaleswind.

Laurance decided to break the silence after a while. "How did you come back, Arabella?"

"Through the portal," she simply replied, but upon seeing Laurance's expression, said, "Oh. You mean, from the dead."

Laurance solemnly nodded. "If we're going to talk about, let's not do it amidst so many people."

Arabella didn't know whether it was from her good mood or the fact that she was enjoying her time with Laurance like she had used to, but she actually agreed to it. "Let's head outside, then."

"Well, there's no one around here." Arabella looked around the wide and deserted field before sitting down on it with Laurance.

"Care to begin?" he asked.

On second thought, Arabella didn't want to do this, but it was too late to back out. "Er, how do I start?"

"Uh, well," said Laurance, trying to make her feel a bit more comfortable doing this, "how about the first thing that happened when you woke up?"

That was the conclusion, though. Arabella pondered this. She decided to start off slowly. "The first thing I remember was a lot of pain. Imagine every aching wound that you've ever felt, and then imagine all of those together at once, but ten times worse and all throughout your body."

"Ouch."

Arabella nodded. "Eventually, it disappeared, and I found myself in this dark, reddish room. I was lying down in this weird altar-type thing and... well, I turned my head to see Sasha."
