On the walk home I told Sam all about his life, his hopes, his dreams, and all I knew about him--which was a lot. I had known him since I was little. We walked and talked for what seemed like hours--and it many have been. The night was still very dark, but I knew it had to be at least five in the morning. I told him all about this sickness that wasn't really a sickness, but I left out the events that had occurred tonight.
"Seems like I sure had an interesting life." He said when I was done.
"Yeah, you did. I'm sure you'll remember it all really soon."
"Yeah, I hope so." He replied, watching the moon like a child would.
I paused, watching the sky, "Yeah, it really is."
After a long while of watching the stars, we started home.
When we walked up the steps I remembered I didn't have the key.
I started to panic.
I went up first and tried the door--it was open.
Strange, but I was happy for this. Maybe I hadn't tried hard enough? I had no idea, but all the same I helped Sam into the house.
I turned on the lights, and showed him a quick tour. I decided quickly that Sam could have the bedroom across from mine. It was more like a storage room, but it had a bed, and it was clean enough.
"Here, I'll show you your room." I said as I pointed up the small stair case.
He smiled, "Ok, thanks." and we started up the staircase.
It creaked, and squeaked as we walked, and I was slightly embarrassed by this. "Sorry about the state of the house, we have a lot of um--foster kids that live here sometimes." I had neglected to tell him also about my--"gift." The other Sam had obviously known, but I wasn't going to scare new Sam off with all my burdens at once.

Sam was pretty quiet, and I didn't know why.
"What's wrong?" I asked, turning to face him, he was much closer to the back of me than I thought and we bumped noses. He was much taller than I thought he was. He must have been somewhere around 6' 1''. "Sorry" I said.
"Oh it's ok. I'm fine--I just--feel a bit under the weather. Maybe I'm tired." he said, and I quickly walked to his room and opened the door.
"Thanks." He said, and he did seem tired. "is that your room?" he asked pointing across the hall.
"Yeah it is." I smiled. "You get some sleep, I'm going to bed too." I said.
"Ok, I'll see you tomorrow!" I said happily as I shut the door. I lied, I wasn't going to bed, I was going out, out to cover my tracks.
