As I had expected, a cop was at my door by mid-morning. I had called in before going to bed that my car had been stolen, and I gave them my license plate. I wasn't worried, well, maybe a little. But when a cop come to your home where you just burned your bloody clothes after killing two people--well--one--you get a little nervous.
The door bell was like a siren that I couldn't stop from ringing. I put my pillow over my head to muffle the sound, but I couldn't ignore a cop. I had a mini-temper tantrum before pulling myself from my bed and into the freezing air.
Wasn't it supposed to be summer? I thought.
"Hold on!" I screamed, running down the stairs. "I'm coming!" I pulled the door open, and there stood a young male cop. He only seemed to be my age, but he had an authority t him. He wasn't someone you wanted to get on the wrong side of. "What can I do for you?" I asked, trying to make my smile not seem too fake.
"Good morning, sorry for waking you." He said, placing his foot in the doorway.
"Oh, it's ok." I smiled.
"We have found your car--seems like whoever stole it sure did a number on it." He said, not smiling.
"Oh shoot! Is it tootled?" I asked, trying to keep my face in 'sad mode.'
"I'm afraid so, but your insurance is paying for you to get a new car, so I wouldn't worry. We are working as hard as we can to find the cooperate." He handed me a few papers to sign, and I did as quickly as possible. He smiled as I handed them back to him, and he bid me good day.
I closed the door and breathed a sigh of relief, I was going to be ok.
I walked up the stairs to check if Sam was awake yet, but he was still fast asleep. I was happy for this--I had to do some stuff before he awoke.
