I should have known. The second that Bryan had said they had a seventeen year old son, I should have been able to put two and two together. It all makes sense. The fancy speed boat and the arrogant attitudes. Why did I come over here?
"John, come here," called Mary," I want you to meet Chloe, our next door neighbor."
He walked over and held his hand out. Reluctantly, I shook it.
"You look familiar", he said with a smirk,"Have we met?"
I rolled my eyes, and yanked my hand back as I was introduced to his friend, Bruce. Both boys were extremely muscular, athletes no doubt. Although John was quite a few inches taller than Bruce. They both sat down on the couch across the room from me, and I politely ignored them as the conversation continued.
I could see them from the corner of my eye, and I could tell Bruce was staring at me. After a few minutes, I sneaked a glace over in his direction. He caught my eye and winked as I quickly looked away again.
"Isn't that right Chloe?", my dad turned to me and asked. I hadn't been paying much attention to the conversation, so I just nodded pretended like I knew what they were talking about.
"Well," Mary piped up," you kids probably aren't very interested in our grown-up talk. John, how about you and Bruce show Chloe around?"
"What a great idea, mother," John said as he stoop up. He motioned for me to follow him, and I slowly rose from the lilac chair and followed him and Bruce into the kitchen, and out of earshot.
"As much as I'd hate to miss out on this fun little tour," Bruce said, breaking the silence,"I'm going to go hit the showers. Try not to miss me, Chloe"
"I don't think that'll be a problem," I replied cooly. He smirked and walked out of the room, leaving me and John standing there awkwardly.
"Sorry about him," John said,"He's only here for the weekend, so he'll be out of your hair by tomorrow night."
"And when will you be gone?" I snapped. He smiled at my tone of dislike.
"Hate to break it to you, babe, but your stuck with me all summer."
"Lucky me," I said, sarcasm dripping from my voice. He just laughed.
"Come on, i'll show you around the garage."
Turns out the garage is more like a second home. It's actually almost as big as our cottage. They had four kayaks sitting in one corner, a shiny blue jeep parked to one side, and a whole wall full of fishing gear.
"Maybe we could take you fishing sometime," John said as he caught me eyeing up the fishing poles.
"Thanks, but no thanks. I'm not big into fishing," I lied.
"That's not what your dad said earlier, in the house," Crap. So that's what they had been talking about.
Ignoring him, I walked over to the other side of the garage, discovering two dirt bikes parked in front of a second garage door.
"Want to take them for a ride?" John had sneaked up behind me, making me jump and knock one of the bikes off balance. He quickly reached around me and grabbed the handle bar, saving the bike from falling.
"On second though," he added,"maybe we should just leave them here for now."
He was so close I could feel his breath on my neck when he spoke. He didn't seem to notice though. Or maybe he was just used to being that close to girls.
"I should probably get back anyways," I said as I ducked underneath his arm," Thanks for the tour."
"No problem," He said as he watched my leave,"See you around, Chloe."

As soon as I walked in the door to my cottage, I was greeted by my familar ringtone. I dashed into my room, snatched my phone off my nightstand, and hoped on the bed.
"Hello" I greeted.
"Hey girl!" answered my best friend, Demi.
"Demi! Whats up?"
"Well, my boss just called and said that he didn't need me tomorrow, so I was wondereing if you needed a roomate for the night?"
"You know your always welcome here, you don't even have to ask."
"Well I didn't want to be rude..."
"Oh please, that ship sailed away a long time ago." I could hear her laughing on the other end of the line.
"You know me so well. I'm going to go pack. See you in a few hours?"
"Sure thing, see ya." I hit the end button.
Good, I thought to myself, I have somthing to look forward too. Somthing completely normal, unlike everything else up here. Now I just need to find somthing to do for the next 2 hours...
