We had been driving for fiveminutes and the awkward silence had already settled in. I reached over and turned the radio up just a bit. I was grateful that the sun had set already, and that it was dark, so I didn't have to see his face.

He probably hated me now. He hadn't said anything the whole car ride. I don't even know why I wimped out, it was stupid. What  I really wanted was a second chance. Well, a third chance, if you count the truth or dare game.

And I had so much fun with him today, I thought to myself. Leave it to me to make a mess of everything. I'm just afraid. I'm afraid of getting hurt. I'm afraid of getting close to someone, and then losing them. I just didn't want to go through that again.

I decided to pass the time by counting the songs that played on the radio.

One...

Two...

Three...

Four...

My phone, which I had placed in the cup holder, vibrated, making a loud noise against the plastic. John looked over for a second, caught my eye and quickly looked away. I grabbed it and flipped it open, reading my new text from Demi.

soooooo? how'd it go???

She was probably thinking that I forgot about her, since I hadn't texted her yet.

we're not home yet.

Hopefully that would shut her up for right now. I didn't really feel like reliving the whole thing quite yet. My phone buzzed again, but this time I had it in my hands, and John didn't seem to notice.

jeez, where r u?

I should have known. It was impossible to shut Demi up.

i don't kno exactly, its a long story. call u later?

She would probably be mad at me for making her wait for details, but I really didn't care right now.

k.

Yup, she was definitely mad. Oh well.

Five...

Six...

Seven...

I made the mistake on putting my phone back into the cup holder. I jumped slightly when it went off again, but John ignored it this time. I flipped it open and rolled my eyes at the text I got from Tina.

so whats the deal with u and john? ;)

Tina was always had the latest gossip, I should have been expecting this text.

idk, its complicated.

well, is he coming to the bbq wednesday?

idk, maybe.

well are you 2 coming together?

idk tina!

She might have sensed my annoyance in the text, since she never replied. Well, I can add her name to the list of people who hate me right now. Who's next?

I rested my head back on the seat and closed my eyes. I didn't want to deal with any of this right now. I just wanted to curl up under my covers and hide forever.

I must have fallen asleep, because the next thing I knew the car had come to a stop, and I heard John shutting his door. I opened my eyes and watched him cross through each beam of the headlight, and come open my door.

"Oh, your up," He said.

"Yeah," I said, still not quite awake yet,"Sorry about that."

"Don't worry about it," He replied as I climbed out of the car. The cold air immediately shocked me wide awake, and I shivered.

"What time is it?" I asked as we walked towards the door.

"Just past eleven," I couldn't tell if he was still mad at me or not, but I had to fix it.

"Listen," I said, turning towards him on the top step of the porch,"I'm really sorry about tonight. I don't know what happened, but I would really like a do-over."

He looked at me, and at first his face showed no emotion. Had I just made a complete fool of myself? He probably didn't want to give me a do-over. But before I had time to mentally freak out any more, a smile spread across his face.

"I would like that," He said as he wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling my closer. I wrapped my hands around his neck as he leaned in closer. This time, I was ready. His lips just brushed mine, and I went to close the little space left between up, just as the door burst open.

We jumped apart as fast as we possibly could, as the light from inside the door washed over us. My dad stood there, not quite knowing what do after having caught us at the worst possible time.

"Sorry," He sounded about as embarrassed as I felt,"I was just going to grab my phone charger out of the truck..."

He walked quickly between us, making his way to truck. I turned my head slowly to look at John, who had a look of disbelief on his face.

"Well," I said, since my dad was still rummaging through his truck, a few feet away,"I guess I'll see you around."

"I guess so," He smiled,"Bye Chloe."

"Bye John," I said, mockingly as I shut the door behind me.

Once again, we had missed our first kiss. I was beginning to wonder if it was ever going to actually happen.
