I was lounging in a lawn chair by the water when I heard a car coming down the long dirt road. Grabbing my flip-flops, I ran up to the driveway as Demi pulled up in her little red mini cooper with the music blaring. It went quiet as she cut the engine, and she jumped out in her low-cut tank top and short shorts. Typical Demi.

"Chloe!" she screamed as she ran over and gave me a hug,"you were gone one day, and I already missed you."

"You're going to be here a lot this summer, aren't you?" I asked with a smile.

Demi popped her trunk, and I was taken off guard by her two large suitcases and bright pink duffel bag.

"Wow," I said, turning to her,"are you staying for the night, or the week?"

She smiled,"HA. HA."

I laughed as we grabbed her stuff and headed to the cottage.

"Hey honey," My mom called as I kicked the door open,"Don't forget the Mason's invited us over for a campfire tonight!"

"Got it!" I shouted as I struggled to pull Demi's suitcase through the door frame,"Seriously, what did you bring?"

"Just the essentials," She stated, matter-of-factly,"Who are the Masons?"

"Our new next door neighbors," I threw her suitcase next to my bed,"Total snobs."

She laughed as we unpacked the rest of her stuff, and headed out to the lake to swim a little before the sun set.

"Dang," Demi said as she climbed the ladder to the raft,"Who are those hotties?"

I followed her gaze, and saw John and Bruce sitting out on the end of their dock.

"Trust me, they're no good." I answered, rolling my eyes.

"Well," She replied, playfully,"I find that hard to believe."

"You are such a flirt."

"You say that like it's a bad thing," She caught me rolling my eyes, and I saw realization dawn on her face,"Are those the Masons?!"

"One of them."

"Well then, I definitely will be up here a lot this summer," She winked before diving in the water.

I sighed. Don't get me wrong, I love Demi, but we just aren't really the same since...the accident. I used to be as fun and carefree as she is, it's just hard now, and I know that it annoys her. I try, I really do.

"Are you coming?" She shouted from the water, shattering my train of thought. Smiling, I jumped in right next to her, spraying her with water.

"Oh you are so dead," she screamed as she dunked me underwater.
