"I dare you to kiss John."
There was a hint of victory in her voice and I hated her for it. I couldn't do it. How could I? If I didn't, she would never let me live it down. It would be the first time I've ever backed out of a dare. But if I did, he would probably never let me forget it, being the arrogant guy that he is. It was a lose-lose situation.
"Fine," I said angrily, and turned to John,"Let's just get this over with."
"My pleasure," He smirked, eyeing my annoyed expression witha look of amusement.
He started to lean towards me. I could feel Demi and Bruce looking at us, I could practically hear Demi wondering if I was actually going to do it. Believe me, I didn't want to. But how could I not? That would be breaking one of the most important rules of Truth or Dare.
His mouth was inches away from mine now, and he was steadily getting closer. I could see every eyelash that surrounded his blue eyes. I could see the water from the lake clinging to his hair line. He was close now. I closed my eyes, and leaned in the last inch. Maybe this wasn't such a bad thing after all...
Just then my phone rang, cutting through the silence like a knife. I jumped about 2 feet off the ground and banged my head on John's.
"Jesus," He cried, as I struggled to pry my phone from my pocket. I was immediately reminded why I hate wearing tight shorts.
"Hello?" I said, trying to steady my voice.
"Hey Chloe," my mom responded.
"Oh, hey mom."
"I think it's about time for you and Demi to head back to the cottage, okay?"
"What time is it?"
"Its midnight already."
Oh jeez, how'd it get so late?
"Ok, be home soon."
I hung up and looked over at the group, only to find them all staring at me.
"We have to go," I said to Demi. She looked disappointed, but she didn't argue.
I stood up quickly, thankful to have avoided that nightmare, and turned to leave.
"Wait for me!" Demi cried as she threw her shirt back on. I just kept walking, still mad at her for giving me that dare.
"Bye," She said to Bruce, seductively, before turning and sprinting to catch up with me,"Well that was fun."
"Speak for yourself," I still didn't look at her.
"Oh c'mon Chloe," Demi said,"Don't be such a baby."
I let the door slam in her face as we entered the cottage, but we dropped the argument when we spotted my mom reading a book in the living room.
"Hey girls," she greeted.
"Night mom," I replied as I walked right through to my bedroom.
A few seconds after I had shut the door, Demi walked in. I didn't bother to look at her, I just kept myself busy rummaging through my drawers looking for a pair of pajama shorts. She sat down on the air mattress that my dad had blown up for her, and I heard her sigh.
"Chloe?" She asked. I ignored her, But after a few seconds she tried again, "Chloe, You can't stay mad at me forever, I was just having some fun."
"Well I wasn't."
She was quiet for a few seconds and I heard her shift nervously on the mattress.
"What happened?" She spoke tenderly, I could tell she was trying not to upset me more,"You used to be so carefree and fun. I miss that about you."
"I try," It came out as a whisper,"But it's so hard."
"Amanda wouldn't want this," She was whispering too now,"She would want you to enjoy yourself, and to go out there and have fun again. She would want-"
"How would you know?" I turned around to face her, not bothering to hide my tears anymore.
"Because," She said calmly," You would want the same thing."

She's right, I thought to myself as I tried to fall asleep. Amanda would want me to be out there, enjoying life like we used to, together. Going to parties, making new friends, and being happy.
"Chloe?" Demi whispered. I thought she was asleep, since we had been laying here over an hour, but apparently she couldn't sleep either.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Do you like John?"
"What?" I hadn't been expecting that one,"No, not at all."
"I don't believe you," I rolled my eyes at her stubbornness,"You at least think he's attractive, right?"
"I guess," I said while yawning.
"Oh, okay," she whispered back, apparently satisfied with my answer.
Soon after that, I heard her breathing even out, and knew that she had finally fallen asleep.
I definitly don't like John, I reasurred myself, He is way to arrogant. But, I guess I don't really know him that well...
