Demi and I spent the next morning out on the water, swimming and messing around. I couldn't help but look over and the Mason's dock every once and a while. There was no sign of either John or Bruce all morning.

"I'm hungry," Demi whined as we layed out on the raft.

"Wanna go make lunch?"

"I'm too tired to go make lunch," She replied, making me laugh.

"Same."

I almost fell asleep as we layed in the sun, but Demi's growling stomach woke me up.

"Ok," She said,"I need food now."

We laughed and dove back into the lake, making our way slowly towards shore. As we dried off and headed back to the cottage, I caught Demi glancing over at the Mason's.

"Where do you think they are?" She asked, referring to John and Bruce. I was curoius myself, but I wasn't going to let Demi know that.

"Don't know," I said, pretending I hadn't noticed,"Don't care either."

"Oh whatever," she said, pushing me lightly,"I know you noticed, too."

"Well Bruce was leaving today," I said,"So Johns probably driving him home or something."

"Aw," She looked disappointed," I didn't get to say good-bye."

I rolled my eyes as we climbed the stairs to the deck, throwing our towels over the railing to dry. We were greeted by the AC as soon as we entered the cottage. Demi let out a cry of relief as she collapsed onto the couch and curled up with a pillow.

"You are such a drama queen," I laughed as I started to open cupboards,"Ramon Noodles or Mac & Cheese?"

"Hmmm...,"She sat up,"Mac & Cheese, definitely."

"It's like you read my mind," I smiled. This is why we were best friends.

I turned on some music, not worrying about how loud it was, since my parents had taken the pontoon boat out into the lake. I put the water on the stove to boil and walked over, joining Demi on the couch with a magazine.

"Apparently," she stated matter-of-factly," I am the perfect girlfriend."

I laughed,"Please, Those quizzes don't mean anything."

"Look at that," She said. Figuring she was still referencing the magazine, I looked over and saw a page about teen pregnancy.

"Demi, are you trying to tell me something?" She looked over at me confused, then looked down at the magazine.

"No," She said, throwing it on the table,"Look who's coming to visit."

I followed her gaze out the window, and saw John walking down the little stone path to our cottage. I looked down, realizing I was still in my bathing suit, but I didn't have enough time to change. He knocked on the door, and I ran over, checking my hair in the mirror before opening the door.

"Hey," I said cautiously as I opened the door.

"Hey," He said, eyeing my bikini,"My mom wanted me to bring over some vegetables from her garden."

He handed me a plastic bag and I took it, thanking him.

"So, are you going to the carnival Saturday?" He asked.

"Yup," I smiled,"I go every year."

"Well," He continued,"We should hang out there, just cause I won't really know anyone else."

"Sure," I said.

"Cool," He smiled, obviously pleased with himself,"I guess I'll see you around then."

"Kay," I said, shutting the door in his face.

When I turned around, I saw Demi standing there, eyeing me suspiciously.

"What?" I asked defensively as I set the vegetables down on the counter.

"So, you still don't like John, huh?" She smiled mischeviously at me.
