I took out my green glass statue, a perfect replica of the one my mother had given to Tobias. One for each of us, she'd said. Hers was Rosetta pink. I slipped it into to waist of my loose grey dress. I've always hated Abnegation clothing, but now I suddenly love it. More room for secrets.

I slipped downstairs, at exactly 6:35 as instructed, not a minute late, not a minute early. I was promptly met with a hand swinging toward my face, leaving a sting. What did I do wrong?  I looked up down at my clothing.  All neatly creased. Shoes neatly laced. So what was it?

Suddenly the back of my skull made a sickening crack and slammed into the wall, prompted my an arm that was now against my throat.

"You know what to do. I expect you to do it. If you mess anything up, you will. Be.  Punished. Understood?" He grabbed my chin, forcing my head up.

"Y-yes sir." You can't punish me if I'm in Dauntless. He drops me and swings the door open, walking into the bitter morning. I follow, keeping my head low. This can't be my life
