We stumbled off the train and somehow everyone made it. We gathered on the roof, which had a sizable hole in it and waited for someone to tell us what to do. A Dauntless man stepped up on the ledge. One false step and he would fall.

"My name is Eric," he announced, and I couldn't help but notice his tongue piercing moving about. He had piercings everywhere. Cool. "If you want to enter Dauntless, this is the way in," he points to the hole in the roof.

Anthony raises his hand as if we're in school. "Is there water at the bottom?"

Eric smirks. "You'll have to see for yourself. Now. Who's going first?"

We all peer over the side of the ledge, trying to catch a glimpse of what lies beneath. Blackness.

It seems as if I'm falling before the rough hand hits my back, but I know I was pushed. A small whining sound escapes my throat as I hit something and go flying back up, hit it again, bounce, hit it again, and feel hands steadying me. I turn to see my brother standing at the edge of the net that apparently caught me.

Before I could say anything, he grabs me and pulls me off the net. "What, did you get pushed?" I nodded a little, hearing a couple laughs from behind me, where more Dauntless were standing.

"Well, what's your name, stiff?" What? "Well?"

"It's uh, Amber."  He nods and turns to face the other Dauntless leaders.

"First jumper, or at least first person down," he mutters. "Amber!" Everyone cheers and other initiate, a Dauntless born hits the net, a small scream escaping his mouth.

        Why doesn't he recognize me?
