After waiting for almost a half an hour before the Abnegation boarded the bus, we arrived at the choosing ceremony.  I kept my head down and sat in the Abnegation section, the only section being quiet. I let my self lift my head to sneak a glance around the room. The Amity are next to us, most of them playing a hand-slapping game. Erudite is next, soft chatter coming from their section, almost all their noses shoved in books. The Candor are involved in a lively debate, something about schools. And lastly is the Dauntless.  They're all screaming and pushing each other, laughing hysterically. I scanned the crazed crowd for Tobias. He wasn't there.

My head fell back down, still throbbing from hitting the wall as Jeanine started her speech. Erudite always gives the speech, however, the remaining four factions take turn hosting it. This year, Jack Kang, leader of Candor, will be calling the names.

"Samantha Ziegler"
A quiet, petite Abnegation girl rose and walked to the front. She stayed.

"Anthony Ziegler"
Another Abnegation. He chose Dauntless. Wait what?! No Abnegation ever chooses Dauntless. There are only soon to be three in history. Me, Tobias, and the Prior girl.

Marcus glared daggers at me and I shrunk in my seat.

         "Matthew Valentine"
          "Cameron Thomas"
          "Kaelyn Tanner"

When does this end? I grew hot in my seat, tugging at the sleeves of my dress. I stared up at the ceiling.

"Jonathan Evers"
Amity. Stayed.
"Amber Eaton"

I stood shakily, feeling Marcus' eyes drilling the back of my head. I shook the feeling of impending doom and took up the feeling of the knife in my hand. Soon a thin red line was on my palm. I held my hand and looked at the bowls. I heard a sizzle, looked down and saw my fist clenched over the bowl of hot Dauntless coals. I grinned and turned around into the wild, cheering crowd.

Marcus wasn't shocked. I could see it in his eyes. He was angry as heck, but wasn't shocked. He knew. I now know.
